Title: Am I missing something here?
Post by: Beeeph on May 28, 2005, 05:14:12 pm
why is it everytime I search the forum for info on renaming my mame roms, I can only find discussions regarding the renaming of console roms.  The same with mame screenshots and artwork, everything is for console roms.  Basically I want to rename all my .96 mame roms to 'readable' names that can be associated with artwork.  What software can I use to rename all my mame (not console)  roms?  Where can I find mame screenshots and artwork?  Thanks!

I'm no expert from the software end so if I'm wrong, someone please correct me...

MAME doesn't work like console emulators. Console emulators just emulate 1 piece of hardware like a Nintendo, and any ROM can be passed through it regardless of name.

MAME is different because it emulates thousands of pieces of hardware. It differentiates one driver from the next based on the game being played. It's probably not a good idea to go changing the names. I don't think the game will play if you change the ROM names.

Try changing the artwork names.

What Alan said. MAME rom names are fixed. Change the names of your artwork. I think Howard Casto had an artwork renaming program but IIRC it's a dead project. I don't know if there's anywhere you can download it from now.
