Title: Soul Edge to Jamma
Post by: paigeoliver on May 26, 2005, 10:18:45 pm
I just did a quick mod on a Soul Edge board to change it from JAMMA+ to JAMMA. Modification eliminated the need for the kick harness.

Here is the important parts of the pinout that you will need.

This is for the secondary edge connector.

Solder side
pin 5---key
pin 8---player 2 button 4(guard)
pin 20--player 1 button 4(guard)

Simply solder wires tagging thos locations to the Button4 locations on the standard Jamma pinout. I also cut the traces on the JAMMA side, just in case.

Top of board. Note, the solder you see on the secondary connector in this picture is not needed, that is the result of me magically soldering up the wrong side of the board!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bottom of board. Tape keeps the wires from getting ripped out.

Block buttons now work without the kick harness. See, both players are blocking.

Time to play!

I'm not sure its worth modding the pcb, why not just use the kick harness?

#1. I don't have it.

#2. I have around 50 boards for that machine, adding in extra harnesses severely complicates things.

If you ever get tired of it of can find another SC pcb i would buy it or trade another pcb for it. (dont really want to go through Ebay)

EDIT: solved. The soldering work was actually fine, but the wiring on the cabinet wasn't working properly.
Moved the board into a different cabinet and it worked like a charm. =)

Did this very same thing (thanks for the heads-up!) and now the kick button works for both players, but the guard button doesn't. What could be the reason? I'm at a loss... =P

The last post before the necro was over a decade ago. Kinda funny.

It's still a good idea. Wouldn't have thought about it unless it was brought back. :) I mean, what's the point of keeping this stuff unless we can use it for reference or search for answers. Right?

Reading it is one thing. You don't go try asking Mark Twain if he can change the ending of Huck Finn,  do you?

I don't have to, the comet got his ass. You know, I've never read Huck Finn, I should...

...wait, how's this even relevant??
