Title: FS: ready-to-go JAMMA cabinet of your choice in N TX (now with LOTS of pics!)
Post by: AlanS17 on May 25, 2005, 10:43:16 am
*EDIT 06-16-2005* I just added ALOT of pictures so I don't know how long it'll take to load.

I have alot of machines in my garage. The vast majority are converted classics. Only 2 or 3 have bum monitors. So here's my question...

Would there be anyone in here (within driving distance of DFW) interested in one of these machines if it were cleaned up and had a good monitor put in it? It would be a ready-to-go machine without an actual board in it. This would allow the end-user to either put in their own board or MAME it. For a little more I could put a game in it, but my selection on hand is limited.

Of course, if you wanted to fully restore it you could go that route, too. However, most of these things have been covered up with formica. I wouldn't count on the sideart being salvageable. The cabinets are all 100% sturdy, though.

I don't want to start prepping these machines for such a venture if there's nobody interested. This is pretty much just to test the waters.

Sure, I would be interested in stopping by and taking a couple off of your hands!  WHAT, you don't just need them removed from the property.  I'll wait until your wife puts a little more pressure on you and then we can talk again!  j/k  ;D

I would be interested depending upon what you got and what you want.  I have a couple of guys at work that might be interested in a cab as well.  I am looking for a multi-Williams (who isn't) but am currently finishing up a 2 player Dynamo Cab, Street Fighter II style.

I think we would all be interested in MAMEing more than restoring, so these might fit the bill.

PM me and I will give you my cell, would enjoy hearing from you.

NY_in_TX can vouch for me, I met him when he picked up his Tron cab.

Talk to you soon...

Kev~

I paid money for 'em. I can't just start giving 'em away.  :)

I'd like to see pictures of that Dynamo when you're done.

If you're looking to build a Multi-Williams, though, you're in luck. We've got Defender and Joust cabs.

These things are probably better for MAME, anyways. They're already converted and I'd consider the sideart a total loss unless you have some creative method of diggin through the formica and paint to get to it. It's all under there somewhere (though I can't speak for its condition).

... and I'm not married so no pressure there.  ;)

I'll PM you.

Yeah, I'll vouch for him, unless you got something I want  ;D   (man am I glad I got there before Kev got my tron and SW yoke!)

Kev is "eager".  Kinda reminds me of this young whippersnapper who came up from Houston and bought up every cab around DFW.  ;)

Alan, how much you lookin for one of the williams cabs?

ny

ps I am getting some pms from some new guys to have another DFW get together.  I would be good as there are A LOT of new guys lately. which is great.

Do you have any cocktails? cabarets?
I could almost justify a trip up from Austin for a couple cocktails?

The only 25" cabinet I have available doesn't have a working monitor. I have a working 25" game, but it's Super Off Road. It's got 3 steering wheels attached to it. :-)

If you want a 4player cabinet you could buy the Konami TMNT I was about to start working on. I'm only selling it along with the 27" SVGA monitor, though. That meets all your needs, doesn't it?? It's going to cost more because of the monitor, though.

It does, but probably out of my range, what would the damage be on it?

Well considering the cost of the cab, monitor, and parts I've put into it...

How does $300 sound?

(That's actually less than what I've spent on it so far.)

You can look them up on KLOV for now to see what they looked like originally.

Fully functional:
Dynamo with CPS2 (choice of games)
Super Off Road
Dirt Fox (driving game)

Complete but non-functional:
Space Invaders Deluxe

Incomplete and non-functional:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (4 player)

Ohhhh .... Alan why can't you live closer to me  ???

I wantses a Joustesess ...

But, I should try to keep to level of projects down to 2 or 3 at a time (since I don't have a garage), especially since my wife is insisting that I move the NeoGeo and my Multi-Jamma down to the basement. And the "but dear, I'm still working on them" isn't cutting it anymore.

Cheers.

I forgot! I also have 2 "kit cabs". They're just bright red generic cabs to put your own games in. Those were the 25" cabs, but both monitors are dead.

One has had a 19" monitor and a CPS board put in it. The other is still empty.

2 Final Fights
3 Golden Axes

Defender makes a better Multi-Williams than Joust, because it has a flat wooden panel and ANYONE can make a brand new one for it easily.

*DISCLAIMER*
The machines in the following pictures may show missing monitors, unpopulated control panels, and open coin doors. Rest assured, though, that every machine is complete. Some have just been taken apart.

That doesn't mean every machine is working. You tell me what you like and I'll tell you if it's working. I think I've got 4 or 5 machines that just need new power supplies ($20 - $30), and several have bad monitors. Neither of those are necessary for converting to MAME, though (depending on the approach you take with the monitor).

I'm going to continue to work on it. If I can get it fixed before someone buys it then I'm keeping it. Until then, though, it's just a broken machine to me. Of course I have my favorites, but did you see how many machines are in my garage? I need to make space.

Well we'll be continuing to fix these things up. Whatever doesn't sell will make its way to the Super Auction. That means a couple of things.

These "ready-to-go" machines may be turned back into complete working machines, in which case they'll still be for sale, but with extra stuff you may not want. Also, since it'll be complete and working, it won't be as cheap anymore.

Plus, as soon as the next Super Auction comes around, chances are that every machine in the garage ready to get sold will be dumped. It'll be a few months from now, but we're expecting our number of available cabs to be cut in half.

God Nija Turtles is probablly the coolest game in the world. Allen, I've asked you about it before, but other pickup (or lack there of) what was wrong with it? I want that bad boy so bad. I don't think my dad would let me have it anyway (even if I payed for it). My room just isn't big enough, it's like a 15'x10' hell hole. A large portion of that is taken up by my bed and MAME cab... Uhhg.

LOL well if it makes you feel any better I'm probably in over my head.  ;)

The TMNT is my newest MAME project. It was an empty shell of a cabinet when I got it. The sideart is kinda damaged on one side. It would have just costed too much to restore.

Aye it is the best...which brings me to my point :)

Alan, how is the condition of the sideart? is it possible to get some pics on the TMNT cab?  Likely getting a full cab )PCB+monitor and all) from someone locally and the side art is in reall bad shape.  If that one is better might see what I can about moving it over.

Or if not. do you know of any place I could get the sideart from? Searched everything I can find aside from calling Konami and asking for it (which I doubt they will) :)

Aye it is the best...which brings me to my point :)

Alan, how is the condition of the sideart? is it possible to get some pics on the TMNT cab?

God Nija Turtles is probablly the coolest game in the world. Allen, I've asked you about it before, but other pickup (or lack there of) what was wrong with it? I want that bad boy so bad. I don't think my dad would let me have it anyway (even if I payed for it). My room just isn't big enough, it's like a 15'x10' hell hole. A large portion of that is taken up by my bed and MAME cab... Uhhg.
I apologize if there's any confusion, and for being 1.5 months late on the reply. The game isn't complete. It's halfway converted for MAME. It does not any of the original internal parts left. It's got a 27" SVGA monitor in it right now.

I actually have 2 Ms Pac-Man machines. Both need to be fixed up cosmetically, though. One is complete and in the middle of a paint job (using original sideartcolor codes). The other is disassembled and incomplete. Are you looking for an original or something to convert?

I wasn't feeling good when the last Super Auction came through. So I still have everything except the Dynamo cabinet.

Yikes, I've never shipped a machine before. I don't even know what it involves. Plus I don't have the means to pallette a machine. I'm open to suggestion, though. How much money are you looking to spend and what do you want to get at that price, though? PM me with what you're looking for.

just contact local frieght place, like DHL (fedex) ro call UPS frieght. Just call thier main number and ask for frieght shipping and explain to them what you have and ask what it would cost to ship it somewhere.  Most arcades cost 100-250 to ship btw. no way around it ;)

Also I think you may have misunderstood my question, I have a TMNT cab with all its parts and working on the way, but sideart is in horrible cndition. Thus I wanted to know the condition of yours so I could maybe combine the two for a better look and convert the other to mame ;)  And I think you answered my question. So go find out how much it is to ship them. lol

Try North American Van Lines.  The person to talk to is Michelle.  Shipping a game is usually around $250 (but who knows with gas prices now!)

cost is very dependent on weight, those empty cabs wont be 250 ;)
Also, money can be saved by shipping it to the depot rather than to someone's front door, then it just requires them to go pick it up.  Cost of course would be up to the buyer :)
And dont forget paletizing, sometimes its required othertimes not. But when shipping if oyu have the option you should go for it (atleast on the more fragile items) because it helps protect the base/panels from damage and makes it easier to transport.

And I am still interested in the TMNT cab!  :P

Doesn't the TMNT have a 27" VGA monitor in it ? That'll add a buck or two to the price of shipping.

Distance and locations are also big indicators -- Alan, be sure to have this info handy when you call.

I've been waiting for somebody (e.g. Paige)  to jump in and comment about shipping these cabinets as both are fairly common (although I haven't tracked down a MsPac for myself yet and maybe the TMNT is rarer that I thought).

Cheers.

Forgive my clueless question - With a Jamma cab, all you need is to buy a Jamma game board, correct?  I'm more familiar with MAME and Ipacs than with "real" arcade machines...  But I would potentially be interested in a Jamma cab...

Yeah, it goes with the monitor. The bulk of that cost is in the SVGA monitor. But that also reminds me. I've built custom bracing into the cabinet to hold the monitor. It doesn't use the standard monitor brackets. That could cause a problem if you try to re-convert for original use. It's really hard for me to say if you'll be able to undo it or not. It's probably not worth $300 + shipping to find out, though.

Proly true.  However its sorta up in the air. basically the cab that is too far gone to be worht restoring will become a cab for project #2, a console/PC cab methinks.  Did you rip out the old bracing for the monitor or just add to what was there?  And as of now I am still wanting to know shipping costs for it.

I didn't rip out any bracing, but it was already missing when I got it. (Well it looks like something was removed.) It still has the original monitor shelf.

The sideart as great (9/10) on one side and probably about a 6/10 or 7/10 on the other side. The control panel is worthless. I hope that helps to describe the condition. I don't know how that compares to what you've got going on with yours.

I still have checked on shipping costs, though. I need to do that. Are these shipping companies open on weekends? Because I get out of work pretty late on weekdays.

Well mine might be better than that on one side, but it's definitely worse on the other. I have a few square inches that have been completely pealed off by some previous owner.

I hate to say it, I don't think the condition of my machine is going to suit your needs.  :-\

Well I'm trying to consolidate, so I'd be interested in any even trade that left me with less stuff than I had before.

For example, I would trade one of my JAMMA cabs for a functioning 25" monitor.

This is just out of pure curiousity, as i dont know if 1, i could make the space or 2, i could get a family member to drive me with a truck or 3, money, however...

1.) Do you still have the red 25" kit cab with the dead monitor

2.)if so, about how much whould that cost.

3.)if i bought it (huge if) could you remove the monitor.

Like i said, its out of curiousity, but if the price is right, and i can somehow talk my mom into it, somehow, then id definitly like getting my hands on a cab, finally...

To answer your questions:
1.) Yes I still have it the red kit cab.
2.) The price is negotiable.
3.) The monitor is currently removed.

Do you have a monitor to put in this? Or do I need to put a working 19" monitor into it? That affects the price.

I was just kinda gonna pop in one of my spare vga pc monitors, since id be useing a mame pc anywho.  Im not really confident in my own abilities to work with/install/remove the monitors.  I dont feel like frying like a motzerella stick ktnks.  ;D  And on one of thoes, there are far too many ways to do just that.

Hmm, about price...hmm........
Im really at a bit of a loss when it comes down to pricing these things.  Id figure, minus a monitor, or game, and the condition of the cab (or at least the front of it, as thats all i can see)  Id figure id go relitivley cheap (my somewhat local tilt arcade has a dynamite cop for $195, dunno what works on it.)

for now id like some more info on the thing, more pics of the other sides, if possable that is, and other tidbits i should know.

I really dont know what whould be a resonable offer for this thing, i really dont.
