Title: Qbert Repair
Post by: dabone on May 23, 2005, 10:48:28 pm
I've got a qbert here for repair.

Does any one sell power supply rebuild kits?
And the high score save mod?

(Game is currently working again, (fuses, reseating connectors)
But I want to give it a good maintence and get that battery off the board.

later,
dabone

Matt Osborne might do a high score save kit.  Dunno about the rebuild. Might be something you'll have to suss out for yourself.

You can easily take the battery off the board yourself.

There are 4 connectors and IIRC 2 of them are used just to stableize it (no electrical connection) and the other two are + and -.   The 2 inner ones are the stablizing pins. Just desolder them and remove it.  Then, go to radio shack or search your parts box for a 4 AA battery holder with bare ends, and solder them appropriately into the + and - pins (labelled) on the circuit board.

Pop 4 AA NiCad (only) batteries into the holder and you're set.   Don't use alkalaine as it will attempt to recharge them.

Basementarcade has a rebuild service for the Q*Bert PS board for $55. I have a Q*Bert I've been fighting with myself. I'd prolly send mine in, but I think my monitor's flyback just died, so I want to check into that first.
