Title: Fight fans help - (old folks stay out)
Post by: monkeybomb on May 23, 2005, 01:45:10 pm
I am setting up a cabinet devoted to fighters using pcbs, not emulation.

If you could have a cabinet devoted to your 6 favorite fighters or a Naomi setup with just  Capcom vs SNK 2, which would you take?  Keep in mind I really love 2d fighters and don

What sort of a budget are you working with?

... and personally I thought Capcom vs SNK 2 stank (but of course that's just one person's opinion).

I personally hate fighters, but it seems to me that having 6 is better than having one, presuming there are six that you love.  I would have six of widely varying styles rather than having six games that all feature the same characters; if the six are all similar it would seem there is little point and you might as well do the Naomi setup.

Budget?  What's that?

seriously I'm determined to do one or the other, if I do both the wife will kill me.  I figue I'll have to spend at least 600 - 800 either way.  But that's a very rough estimate.

Depending on your 6 choices of games that could be a very optimistic estimate. It's hard to say.

My brother has a CPS2 machine and he just switches out boards. Of course, that limits us to just playing Capcom fighters, but those are the ones we like.

If one of your 6 games is Killer Instinct, though, I say go with the multigame setup.  :)

Well i'd like to keep it under 1000.  600 would be for capcom v snk 2.  KI won't be one of the games.  I already have the cabinet, SFII and  x-men v street fighter is on it's way.  I won't count what I've already spent.  If cost became a big issue, I would do things like make MK3 into MK2.

I would go with the 6-in-1.

The NAOMI setup is pretty expensive by itself.  The games usually aren't cheap either running $100 plus (according to eBay).  I lucked out and got mine in a 25" cab on the cheap, but I haven't been able to drop bank on the GD-ROM unit to increase my selection of games.  The GD-ROM units sell for more than I bought my entire setup for.  :-/

Even though the NAOMI hardware hasn't been emulated, the games have been ported to consoles.  Those consoles (Dreamcast) may be emulated.  I thought about this for the CPSIII since it too has not been emulated, and probably never will be.

I'd go 6 in 1, but I love MK. :)

I'd go with the six pcb setup, having many fighters with different makers (midway, capcom, etc) is the way im going.

Im working on something similar with my Blitz 99 and UMK3 pcbs and looking for a few more cps2 and cps3 games.

If it doesn't have Killer Instinct then it's just a wasye of time.  :)
