Title: byo cd duplicator?
Post by: jam92102 on May 23, 2005, 01:09:31 am
Hey everyone!  Got a question for you.  Does anyone know how I could go about building one of these:
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/I-O-Magic-External-CD-Duplicator/sem/rpsm/oid/73714/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

I'd really like to have one but I'm too cheap.  I guess what I really would like to know is how would I build the interface?  If anyone has some ideas I'd be happy to hear them.  Thanks

if you BYO, it will cost probably more. Lets just say, one CD-RW Drive is around $50.00 thats $100 already right there. Then casing, PCB , TIME (does it work ? ah! crap gotta do it again) ........just don't spend your allowance for 5 months and just get one (headache free).
Do some extra chores like clean Dads car, clean the garage cut the lawn etc. so they give you a little more $$$.

Ebay will prolly bring up some cheaper ones too.  Also check NewEgg and ZipZoomFly, etc.

Hi everyone!  Hope you don't mind me bringing this up from the dead.   I have another question for you about this cd duplicator.  Do you think whether I buy or build one that it will be able to make backups of my music cds.  When I use a program such as nero to do disc to disc it always says copyright protection.  I don't like having to deal with all of the encryption stuff.  It'd be much nicer just to hit a button and it copy.  Do you think I'd have an issue?  I don't want to waste the money and or time if it's not going to do what I want.  Thanks for all the help

Depends on what software you're using I guess. I use Toast on my Mac. I make copies music CDs all the time (original in one drive, blank in the other), and have never gotten any kind of copy protection messages.

Get a mobo that has raid capabilities, and slap a bunch of burners in your case. Use Nero. Theoretically, you could burn up to 7 copies simultaneously, since one channel will need to be used for your hard drive...

I love Nero - it says copywrited CD, and then promptly copies it..

Old server cases are great for this - I had a tower that supported 8 external 5.25 devices and four internal...

If you hadn't posted this, I wouldn't have tried to duplicate a CD and have Nero alert me to the fact that WMP effed up my Nero install >:(

Sunny beaches.....one more reason to hate Microsoft ::)

Yep!  It's just one of many many projects I've got going on/want to start. :)

My nero cancels itself when it has a copywrited cd.  That would work fine for me if it did copy.

Agreed!  Down with Microsoft!

What version number do you have?  I've got 7 and it gave me options to turn off notifications and pretty much ANYTHING related to copying a copyrighted disc.  You may have to skip the pretty StartSmart interface and go to BurningROM and tinker in the options there.  I'm in the process of trying to downgrade back to version 6 ::)

I'm using Nero 6 and it'll copy CDs with copyrights with no problems...
