3 Wing Slot Cutter Assembly - 1/16" Slot #38

T-Molding slot cutter assembly for a router.
Includes arbor, bearing, cutter, and nut.

Use with molding 3/4" wide and smaller.

Shank Diameter: 1/4" (shaft width)
Cutter Height: 1/16" (slot width)

Price: $ 27.95  from T- molding.com

Not a bad price  but I will only use it a few and figured I can save a buck or two and buy a used one
I just got a router for $10.00 ( found it in a trunk of a car about to be crushed! works great

Not that much better, but it does beat 28 bucks by a few.

I would never get this one... you'd never be able to make a straight cut.. You need the spinning disc, not the single pencil tip cutter like this one.

from the page:
"Includes three wing slotting cutter"

I think you were looking at the "Customers who bought this product also purchased" section

I got confused at first also (I need my pictures  ;D)

I just bought the MCLS bit (see Crashwg's post) for 16 bucks with free shipping.  It took about four days before I got it, but no problems, used it and worked great, although I have no previous experience to compare.

Cheers,

Whats the standard cut depth on the MLCS ones?  I borrowed a 4 wing version from a friend and it cuts about 2.5 times the depth of the Tmolding spine... WAY too much, and would weaken or break out the particle board, especially if you've dado'd the cross pieces like the front with coin door right behind the Tmolding channel.

According to MLCS website, depth of cut is 1/2" for the 3-wing cutter, if used with their bearing and arbor.

Having used these extensively, I have had zero problems with weakness or breaking, and I dado all joints.

You can fix this either by using a larger bearing with the bit or, depending on the cuts you have to make (curves=bad) and the diameter of the cutter, by using a fence that attaches to the router.

Of course if your friend doesn't have a bearing kit and you have curves to deal with, you might just want to go buy the MCLS bit.

A router will have either a 1/4" shank or 1/2"  A 1/2" router can accept either a 1/4" OR 1/2" but obviously not the other way around.

Just check what your router accepts.. it'll be on the box or in the manuals.

Yeah, the shank in the rounded part that you actually "stick" into the router.

Oh, and I'll give another vote for MCLS.  I borrowed a slot cutter and router when I built my first cabinet in 1998, but this time around, I had my own router, and a slot cutter from MCLS.  Worked awesome.  No problems at all with t-molding staying put or anything.

I am helping 2 other guys with cabinets that they are going to be starting in a month or so, otherwise I would just sell you mine for cheap...
