I am now at a stage with my project
-
I have a 29" TV in my Lusid design cab and it's great. No issues.
But I assume a 33" would be over kill when your 12-18 inches from the screen.
-
My calculations are that on my cab, P1 & P2 would be about 25 inches from the screen and P3 & P4 about 20 inches away.
-
I've been asked to make some comments. Here they are:
Bones, you are a FOOL. You've already broken the bones in your hand, and now you want to create a machine using dangerous power tools, and a monitor with thousands of volts running through it.
My opinion? Turn back now. Now. Before it's too late. Your very life is at stake here, man!
Oh wait, comments on the topic at hand? Oh...um...go with 27".
-
I've got the 27 in a cab where I'm about 25" from the screen while playing.
It's near impossible to keep all to action in your field of vision while playing.
(Robotron being a good example)
To me 33" should be for showcase cabs only, or the pic will be SO BIG, you will be able to see each pixel of each classic game.

That's the big problem with big screens. Alot of games are designed so that you're supposed to be able to "see everything" going on and anticipate/react to stuff. When the screen is too big, your field of vision sees less and you tend to play worse.
-
I would strongly recommend the 27".
The 27" in my cab feels WAY too big as it is, I can't imagine something bigger.
-
Why waste your time with these puny little 27" monitors when wells-gardner now makes a 39" D9200 (http://www.wellsgardner.com/wellsgardner31/catalog.cfm?dest=itempg&itemid=596&secid=4&linkon=subsection&linkid=8). And its only $100 more than the 33" model. ;D
Seriously though, unless you're building a showcase cabinet, a 27" monitor is plently big for a 4 player cabinet.
-
Of course, since you've already made that giant control panel, and you've got the $$ for the 33" (or 39"!!), why not go for the showcase?
-
Do 27" or 39", the 33" doesn't make sense pricewise.
-
Just putting in a word basically in agreement with the above comments. The 27" is huge anything bigger should be used for showcase only when you stand at least 1m metre from the screen.
-
Thanks guys. errrr..... thanks Peale. :)
Although I don't dislike showcase cabs this is not what I am after so I will stay true to my original plan and go the 27".
Cheers.

I think Wells Gardner would make out like bandits if they made a 25" version of their D9200. I currently have a 25" Hantarex Polo in my cab and it's plenty big enough, I just wish it was multi-freq like the WGD9200.
-
I've got a 27" hanterex in mine and like the above posters stated, it's plenty big, in fact it pretty much fills the cab side to side and vertical games seem damn near perfect.
-
I am debating the same thing and then I realized I have a 27" tv in my family room. After standing in front of it from about the same distance it would be in an arcade cabinet, I am going with the 27". 33" would be too big IMHO.
-
If you're doing a 33 inch monitor I'd suspect the only way to go would be a 4 player podium style setup.

Just not for me. Nothing against them, I just want a more "traditional" style of cab. :)

Well then stick to a reasonable size! Just cuz you can afford it doesn't mean you have to spend it.
