Ok, my Super Neo 29 is getting a full reworking.
New wiring harness (Bob Roberts Neo Geo harness).
4 board JAMMA switcher kit.
6 Slot Neo geo board.
14 new buttons (From richardp).
New translucent sticks from Ponyboy (if they fit, I haven't measured yet).
All that stuff in there is going to seriously cramp the interior and make it a bit more difficult to swap boards. So I am probably looking at making the boards a more permanent install than my current setup.
But I actually have some questions.
Anyone have a clue as to how many power supplies I will need to run all that? I KNOW the single power supply in the Candy at the moment isn't gonna be enough (a six slot Neo by itself is pretty much going to use that up).
For the audio I am going to split the two speakers and run the Neo Geo mono to one speaker and the Jamma mono to the other, I can't think of any other way to wire it that would allow me to use MVS audio and Jamma audio at the same time (MVS audio ties speaker- to ground, Jamma audio does not).
If you were populating a six slot Neo and had the following carts to work with, which ones would you put in it. I have some pretty firm ideas, but I want a fighting cart in there, and frankly I am not too knowledgeable on the Neo fighters and I am not sure which of the ones I have is best.
Magical Drop 2
Neo Mr. Do!
Ninja Combat
Robo Army
World Heroes 2
Nam 1975
King of Monsters
King of Monsters 2
Samurai Shodown
Aggressors of Dark Combat
Super Sidekicks
League Bowling
Puzzle Bobble
2020 Super Baseball
Top Player's Golf
Football Frenzy
The Super Spy
Stakes Winner
Fatak Fury Special
Aero Fighters 2
Quest of Jongmaster
King of Fighters
Also, if you were putting 3 other JAMMA board in, and could pick from the following, then which would you choose (some of these are not Jamma, but that does not matter).
Mr. Driller 2
Puyo Puyo
Klax
Magical Tetris (Featuring Mickey Mouse).
SVT Titan motherboard with Die Hard cart.
TMNT (with 2 player Roms)
City Connection.
X-Men
Tao Taido
Uo Poko
I have more horizontal boards, but I SO can't remember what they are. Pretty sure I got all my decent ones listed.

I understand you dont have these carts but I would go with different games, aero fighters 3, neo turf masters, neo drift out, metal slug x,art of fighting, stakes winner 2, baseball stars 2, IMO
As for the pcbs i would have klax in there.

OUCH!! that setup makes my head hurt
that's going to be just too cool dude 8)

Paige,
Can you tell me if this will get a lot of dual game play or not, i.e., do you have a lot of people over playing it all of the time? I think that is a significant question since my choices would be different depending on your answer. For example, Magical Drop gets an insane amount of play time at my office as does Puzzle Bobble, but without a human competitor, they are not very fun IMO.
Thanks,
Todd

Define "a lot". 90 percent of the time it is just me. But I usually get a few dual games in on friday nights when people come over.

You'll have to inform me where I'm making wrong assumptions. I'm assuming you are wiring the six slot neo geo board into the 4 board jamma switcher.
For Audio:
It seems like you are implying that on Jamma boards the audio is differential and on the neo geo it is single-ended. I do not have a jamma switcher schematic, but if it is using relays and turns off one then turns on the other, I would think you could put it in no problem. I can't believe that they would just tie all the audio signals together. If it doesn't work that way, I would get a single-ended to differntial coverter so that I could use stereo. Your way of a speaker for each would work too.
For Power:
I'd be careful about multiple power supplies. It could work, but I'd for me it's just sketchy. I know some of those multi jammas use a PC power supply. If so, I'd get a good beefy PC one as they are pretty easy to find now a days.
Sorry never used some of those before, so I'm assuming a lot. Looks like a good setup though. Let us know how it goes.

Here would by my 6 pick from your list...
Magical Drop 2
Neo Mr. Do!
Aero Fighters 2
Puzzle Bobble
2020 Super Baseball
King of Fighters... unless it's the first Fatal Fury: The King of Fighter... then go with Samurai Shodown.
If I were putting in 3 other JAMMAs, I would probably stay away from the puzzle types since my pics for your MVS has 2 already. Unless you really like puzzle type games.
-
Damn I hope that thing has good venting or it's all just going to melt anyway.
And I have a Neo Turf Masters I'm going to sell off if you are looking for one, seeing as how tommy mentioned it.

Neo Mr. Do!
Aero Fighters 2
Puzzle Bobble
2020 Super Baseball
Samurai Shodown
....
Last one is tough toss up between Football Frenzy, Super Sidekicks, and Stakes Winner (whatever gives best replay value)
Jamma:
Mr. Driller 2
Puyo Puyo
City Connection
Good Luck!
-
LEAGUE BOWLING!!! You gotta put that one in there. It's all kinds of fun...
-
KLAX

Darn auto log out! It ate my post! I had rationale for my choices, but I'm too lazy to retype all of it at the moment (and I should be getting back to work).
Well here were my picks...
Neo Geo
Magical Drop 2
Neo Mr. Do!
Samurai Shodown
League Bowling
Puzzle Bobble
Aero Fighters 2
Others
Mr. Driller 2
Magical Tetris (Featuring Mickey Mouse).
TMNT (with 2 player Roms)
Uo Poko is a great game and I would say put that in, but my girlfriend whines everytime she sees the cat drown. Man, they really try to guilt you into a few more quarters to keep playing. For such a cute game it has a pretty violent death scene. Poor kitty... So anyways, that one might not be appropriate for women who love cats and young children...
Also, how the heck are you going to keep that thing cooled? I thought Candy cab's with those 29" monitors get stupid hot?

P.S. get a Metal Slug soon! :)

Explains how to set up a QPDT switch to change the audio from MVS to JAMMA.
-
Since I am running a JAMMA switching board I am going to have to have separate speakers for the Neo Geo and the other boards. The other boards can't handle speaker negative to ground, and Neo Geo HAS to be that way.
-
With the games you have available and the volume you really can't go wrong, but for me you would have to put uo poko in there.
I'm all about capcom fighters. I almost spent 500 this weekend to pick up capcom vs snk 2. But for neo geo you need to pick up a king of fighters 99. I say 99 because I think it's the first year that they use the three fighter format and because it's much cheaper on e-bay than 2000 or newer. The multi fighter format adds a lot to the fun.

How about one of these?

I ALREADY have a Mame cabinet!! :police:

Just got a Soul Edge board. Is this good enough to take the place of having a fighter cart in the Neo itself? I'll need to modify to board to actually make it Jamma though. Well, Soul Edge IS Jamma, but it also has a senseless 48 pin connector used to hook up the 4th button. A little trace cutting and soldering action can move that to normal Jamma 4th button instead.

Sam Sho
Aero Fighters
Puzzle Bobble
Magical Drop

It depends on if you like 2D or 3D fighters more. It would be nice to have both in a cab for some variety.

Soul Edge is a slick game. It's the predecessor to the Soul Caliber series. Everyone fights with a weapon, it's in 3d, and when you pull special moves a glow will sometimes follow your weapon. I think it'll easily take the place of a NeoGeo fighter.
Plus I don't know if you care or not, but it's easy for newbies (or kids) to pull off special moves just by wildly pushing buttons.
