In UK there is a TV program based on looking at 20th century collectors items. One thing that they recently had on was an original Taito Space Invaders machine which the so called "expert" proceeded to estimate a value of

Funny thing is that those suckers can barely fetch $100 in the US.

I emailed him. Got this response.
lets see them ridicule me the last two sold for
-
seems like there are people with more money than sense in the UK
does make me wonder whether you should ship me a load of those $100 machines over here for sale though ;D
how much to ship a container from US to UK? cabs are so much cheaper in the US.
in their ebay ads they always say "very rare" - ok so why can i see at least 3 more examples of the same cab for sale on ebay right now?
how many were made in total? how many are in the US somewhere selling for $100?
somehow i dont think they are that rare - difficult to find and fix maybe.
-
it certainly IS a nice machine. maybe id pay up to the current bid of 480 quid. but its still only space invaders...
i think i good clue about the guy selling it is his name- arthur daley ;)

i assume they are selling based on their "rarity" value to people who believe the hype that sellers tell them.
But are they really that rare?
how many were manufactured worldwide?
even if they are rare in UK, I assume that in the US they are pretty easy to find?
then again maybe i should get some as an investment.... as clearly there is a market for them
-
They are in no means rare, Space Invaders had a MASSIVE worldwide run, and the tables seem to be quite common in the UK, moreso then in the US.
-
One went for $450.00 at US auction so..
I always see them go for a decent amount....in good condition that is.. Heck..I got $250.00 for a so-so atari breakout.

I personally have never seen an Invaders cocktail, and that one did look pretty minty...
