"The United States administration turned a blind eye to extensive sanctions-busting in the prewar sale of Iraqi oil, according to a new Senate investigation.
A report released last night by Democratic staff on a Senate investigations committee presents documentary evidence that the Bush administration was made aware of illegal oil sales and kickbacks paid to the Saddam Hussein regime but did nothing to stop them.
The scale of the shipments involved dwarfs those previously alleged by the Senate committee against UN staff and European politicians like the British MP, George Galloway, and the former French minister, Charles Pasqua."
...
"Mr Galloway has denied allegations that he profited from Iraqi oil sales and will come face to face with the committee in what promises to be one of the most highly charged pieces of political theatre seen in Washington for some time." (emphasis mine)
This ought to be interesting.

I am outrage!
Why am I still paying over 2 bucks a gallon for gas?
-
Anybody else see Galloway in fornt of the senate committee?
ROTFLMAO! Talk about not having the measure of somebody.
I've always respected the guy enormously, but he is now officially one of my favourite people!
Best......speech......EVER!! :D
-
Doh! Maybe it wasn't such a good idea for the Republicans to call Galloway to the stand.

Because people are making serious coinage off of it. Look at who is in power and what "interest" they have in that industry. It's always been like that. Politicians ultimately only serve themselves.

I must say,
-
That's classic, watching him squirm because he's part of the Oil-for-Food scandle.
-
That's classic, watching him squirm ...
If that's Galloway squirming, I can't wait until he gets riled up! More please!
by saying the USA is using him to divert attention away from itself.
Two words. "Bay Oil"...I can guarantee it'll be the end of the continuous 24-hr FOX NEWS "Oil-for-food Scandal' extravaganza once this TEXAN company's links to the whole scandal are fully explored. It was only fun when it made the French look bad, but now the U.S. has egg on it's face. Wah!
Squirm. Squirm......Squirm!

It was only fun when it made the French look bad, but now the U.S. has egg on it's face. Wah!
Why do you blame the "U.S." if the government did something bad when Clinton was the president, but you blame "Bush" if the government does something bad while Bush is the president?
Squirm. Squirm......Squirm!
-
I saw a bit of Galloway's performance on the news tonight. Good stuff. Looks like the senators had their butts kicked!
-
That's classic, watching him squirm
SQUIRM LOL!! Thats a classic. Now, the bush regieme getting grilled during the 9/11 enquiry, thats squirming.
Galloway was only getting warmed up, and I guarantee you if the hearing had been going as the senators planned, it would have lasted a LOT longer.
By the way, question to the dems on the board. What waxs the mainstream medias reporting of this stateside like. I saw the CBS evening news and it was not mentioned ONCE. surprise surprise ::)
-
A report released last night by Democratic staff on a Senate investigations committee presents documentary evidence that the Bush administration was made aware of illegal oil sales and kickbacks paid to the Saddam Hussein regime but did nothing to stop them.
Just Spin.
At least you are admitting that there was illegal oil trading and influence peddlilng.
This rabbit hole is deep. It will be very interesting to see where it goes and who did what.
I saw the CBS evening news and it was not mentioned ONCE. surprise surprise
That's because any smear on the UN smears the liberal agenda. No surprise here. It means that the UN was under the influnce of Iraq oil money and there was no fair evaluation of his threat level.
No suprise here.
-
Well I was able to watch it LIVE on Sky news and watch accurate reports of it on three other channels (Irish AND UK). Both UN countries. Whats your point??
-
Bush administration was made aware of illegal oil sales and kickbacks paid to the Saddam Hussein regime but did nothing to stop them.
*Update*
Thanks to the Bush administration and its allies, the Saddam Hussein regime has been stopped.
-

Why do you blame the "U.S." if the government did something bad when Clinton was the president, but you blame "Bush" if the government does something bad while Bush is the president?
Your statment is true.
Also true, That problem is a two way street.
It is also true that Regan fans give credit to Regan for a fun time in the eightties, but give congress credit in the ninties. It was a huge outrage when Clinton smoked a joint but nothing when Bush has his chemical issues.
These are not the best examples but it's clear that many take a side and act like it's a sports game. Just supporting their team to the end. It is gross.
Most of us are just watching the fiasco in horror. We're not happy with any of it and don't support either side of these things.
So whre is the outrage? Those long two year media issues are reserved for blowjobs and important thing. It is the liberal media after all.
-
It was a huge outrage when Clinton smoked a joint but nothing when Bush has his chemical issues.
One was illegal activity, the other was common legal activity. Neither one was good, but that's the difference.
The allegations almost lost the election for Bush. Comming out 3 days before the election took the MO out of the Bush campaign if you recall.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong I really don't remember it that well. So forgive me if my facts are off.
But wasn't it a drinking and driving issue? I really can't see how smoking a joint is nearly as bad as drinking and driving. But reguardless they are both illegal, yet you defend the guy on your team. This is my point.
-
Who defends Bush on the DUI depends on who attacked Clinton for smoking a joint. I don't think the joint was relevant... though the DUI is a much bigger deal.
To ask if Fred is using a double standard here you must first ask if he came down on Clinton for smoking pot.
-
To ask if Fred is using a double standard here you must first ask if he came down on Clinton for smoking pot.
very true. It seemed the case, but I read into the comment way too much.
Sorry fredster
-
Thanks to the Bush administration and its allies, the Saddam Hussein regime has been stopped.
YAY!! What did we win and when are *you* going over there?
Please note that the Army missed it's recruiting goal by 42% last month...and we're losing young men and women by the day, the Army could certainly use more cheerleaders like you DD!! Be sure to sign up soon and help "spread freedom" on some warm & toasty Iraqis!
Why do you blame the "U.S." if the government did something bad when Clinton was the president, but you blame "Bush" if the government does something bad while Bush is the president?
Don't worry DD, I'm as mad as you about the blowjob! I mean, come on...THE....HORROR!!!!

Hey, a man with a job as stressful as President should have a hooker ON STAFF...
...but I do have to protest Clinton's choice of woman.

I don't know, once Monica dropped some weight, she was kinda' cute. Paula Jones on the other hand...*gak*

-
Yeah, you are right.
I think a lot of people held up that Clinton was a hippie, and Bush was a drunk punk.
Both sides came down on him pretty hard. DUI is just as bad.
I didn't come down on either one because of that.
-
I used to sneak Canadians into the US in a van... ;D
Of course, they were just relatives of mine coming to visit.
-
I don't know, once Monica dropped some weight, she was kinda' cute.
The most powerful man on Earth should have something better than "kinda cute once she dropped 35".
-
Not that I care, but Bush was using cocain possibly until he was like 26 or 28 or something. After allegations of cocain use surfaced he initially refused to answer the question as to whether he'd ever used controlled substances saying he didn't believe it was relevant. Later, after a bunch of bad press he went so far as to say that he would pass the FBI's questionaire one must take to work for them, but he wouldn't comment beyond that. That questionaire asks if you've used controlled substances in the last 20 years (or maybe it was 17 or something). Anyway....if you do the math he could have been using while pushing 30 years old and still pass the questionaire at his age. And when asked if you've used hard drugs during a presidential campaign there are only two answers: 1- No and 2- No comment
BTW, alcohol and marijuana are not controlled substances.
-
BTW, alcohol and marijuana are not controlled substances.
What does that mean? :-[
-
Just clarifying that when Bush is talking about his controlled substance abuse he is not talking about the alcohol abuse.
-
Don't worry DD, I'm as mad as you about the blowjob! I mean, come on...THE....HORROR!!!!
I was referring to the 'Iraqi oil deals'.
Wait a minute... that was what this topic, and your original crying was about too.
Why is Mr C changing the subject to a sex scandal?
Why is shmokes changing the subject to alcohol abuse?
I understand, now that I've pointed out that Clinton started this Iraqi Oil thing with the U.S. they no longer want to talk about it.
I want to point out one more thing.
BUSH WON!!!
-
Actually, I think the whole point of this thread is that:
GALLOWAY WON!!!
-
Actually, I think the whole point of this thread is that:
GALLOWAY WON!!!
Actually, he's still on the defensive.
...But since this is all Clinton's fault...
BUSH WINS AGAIN!!!
-
Actually, I think the whole point of this thread is that:
GALLOWAY WON!!!
ROFL!
Here's some more Galloway Gold, from his testimony:
"You will see from the official parliamentary record, Hansard, from the 15th March 1990 onwards, voluminous evidence that I have a rather better record of opposition to Saddam Hussein than you do and than any other member of the British or American governments do."
Game. Set. Match. GALLOWAY WINS AGAIN!!!

I didn't like it that Bush didn't reveal that DUI thing either.

Galloway...later cracked jokes about his appearance in Washington.
"I did a bit of sanction busting," he said, brandishing a cigar. "I smoked a Havana cigar just like this one. I smoked it inside the Capitol building, I even blew the smoke at the White House."
I saw this on Sky News last night and nearly pi$$ed myself with the laughter. Squirm indeed LOL
-
Right or wrong, Im not personally effected either way....but it is always nice to see the party that is not in power at the time (Dems in this case) throwing their support behind the current president - especially on such a touchy subject as Iraq and more importantly in view of a world that already thinks our foreign policy is nothing more than opportunisitic.
-
Looks like Galloway has asked for a rematch:
"If they say they are going to charge me I'll head for the airport and I'm calling for them to do so, begging them to do so," he said. "The charge against me in this sneak attack is that I lied under oath in front of the Senate when I went there in May and trounced this group of lickspittle pro-war Bushites. I am unequivocally stating here and now I'll head for Heathrow now, pausing only to pick up my toothbrush, if they will promise to charge me with perjury. It is very clear what they said, I lied under oath. It is a criminal offence which is what they told me when I swore the oath. It is put up or shut up time. See you in court Senator Coleman."

(Wow, blast from the past)
HA! He used 'lickspittle' in a sentence, I love this guy!
I saw him speak here recently in Boston. Very entertaining. If Coleman doesn't have the goods on Galloway, then he has to be the biggest idiot on the face of the planet for badgering the guy.
Galloway made a fool of Ole' Norm in front of the whole world, and still that little weasel just won't give up.
This should be interesting... (again)
