Title: Mamewah NMS Names Must Match Snaps?
Post by: colonelsnow on May 16, 2005, 03:40:16 pm
If I use NMS files in mamewah, do the snapshot names have to match the name I give as the display name in the NMS file or should the snap names match the rom names?

First and most important the names in the NMS file MUST match the rom names or you won't get the name listed the way you want for that particular game in your game list. Next, if you want a snap to display it MUST match the rom name. So to summarize, all three MUST match. A work to the wise, If you need to rename anything ALWAYS leave the roms alone and rename the snaps to match.

Good Luck,
John

Thanks.

Is there a utility out there that can help build a list? Something that can read in a rom names and then allow you to fill in a blank of some sort to give it a display name.

Also, if you set up Mamewah to use a NMS file does every rom in the rom directory have to be listed in the NMS file? If a rom is not found in the NMS file does it list it in Mamewah by its rom name or does it create an error.  I primarily use custom lists in Mamewah that may represent only 20% of the total roms that I have for a given system.
Those are the ones I would name in the NMS file.

colonelsnow,

Which platform ROMs are you trying to come up with a .NMS file for? Most likely there is an easier way for you to do what you're trying to do, either because someone's already done it, or there's some kind of utility that will do it for you automatically.

Tell us which platform you're trying to come up with ROMs for and I'll see if I can lead you in the right direction.
