The project is nearing completion, even with the recent heavy rains keeping the landscaping from getting finished.
There are four main "Pads" made from special synthetic turf, designed to hold up to regular usage. There is also a Bunker as visible in the pictures.
We will be finishing up the landscaping over the next few weeks which should add a bit to the asthetics...Not to mention adding more area for additional chipping/short iron shots.
The green is also made of a specialized synthetic long bristle turf, which is filled with fine grain sand. The resulting surface plays amazingly well, and reacts to long chips/pitches like a actual green.
(It can also be taylored by adding/removing sand to make it faster or slower.)
The sheer amount of drainage and preparation site work is more than you would believe! There is a dedicated 4" french drain system taking care of the small bunker alone!

Very, very nice work there, usedelectronics.
I've been thinking of doing this, but never got past the thinking stage into the planning stage....
Are there any websites/information you found while planning this? Any pics or other information that you would be willing to share? Where did you find the material? How much labour was involved? How long to complete where you currently are in the project? How much has it cost so far? How much maintenance is required?
Is that set up for a par 3 or a par 4? Have you taken some irons shots yet (I'm sure you have).
You must be the envy of your neighbours...

Nice project........
I've been in the thinking stage of a BYO putt putt golf course......
I have a half acre of my yard I have set out for it.........
I may have to get busy and go into the planning stages soon.....

During the initial planning, myself and several other people spent a couple days chipping balls around in the field. We tried to get the most variety with the placement of the dedicated chipping pads. Of course I have thouroughly "play-Tested" the hole throughout the construction process.
(I can't count how many balls I have fished out of the "under-construction" bunker, and the small creek to the right of the green....)
The project was very labor intensive. It is kind of deceptive from the pictures, as the weeds have grown in quickly.
There was a LOT of tractoring, ditch, and drainage work as well as lots of soil compacting and preparation.
As far as maintenence goes the worst part will be maintaining the living section of the landscaping. The synthetic turf just needs a occasional hosing/sweeping.
I will post up some additional information about the materials etc. When I can find my file contianing the info.
As with everything else, what started as a simple and inexpensive project.. Didn't end up being simple, or inexpensive. ::)

very cool project... I get the idea every time I see that composite decking material commercial where the guy built this elaborate deck/golf hole, but hasn't even poured a foundation to his house yet!
