Title: Spacing Pushbuttons VERY CLOSELY
Post by: markrvp on May 14, 2005, 11:25:09 am
Someone I respect saw this in my Project Announcment HERE (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,35938.0.html) and asked me to place it in the main forum as well.

When I made the layout for my recent one player control panel I accounted for the width of the button lip, but the lock nut underneath is wider than the lip.

I shaved the lips off the lock nuts with a box cutter.  This way I can still use a button wrench.

I think I have a button wrench on order. Will I get my $2 use out of it? I ask because I know you can get by without one.

It's handy if you are working in a tight space.

I got way more than my $2 worth heh.  It comes in very handy.  It's not "necessary" but it sure does prove useful, at least in my experiences.

What size are those button wrenches?  I realize that an actual socket would make it possible to strip pretty easily, but for those of us who'd like to buy an actual tool that might see use elsewhere....

The side that fits the Happ buttons is 1 1/4". Think it would need to be a deep socket to work.

yeah, it would have to be a deep socket for most applications.  The Happ pushbutton wrench has a shallow end and and deep end for that purpose.

I'm sure a real metal socket would work just fine, and probably wouldn't strip very easily in all honesty.  The button nut is thick enough that you'd have to really try to strip or break the nut.

I still say they are worth the $2 though if you are ordering from someone/somewhere that carries them.
