Title: Dragon's Lair CD - anyone?
Post by: tonyarcade on May 13, 2005, 10:47:10 am
Ok, so here's the thing. I definitely will add Mame to my cab (duh), but not sure if Daphne is worth the hassle.

Laser disc wise, Dragon's Lair and maybe Space Ace are the only things that make me think "That's be cool." Definitely not necessary tho.

Anyways, I came across this PC version of Dragon's Lair...

Anyone have/play it? Would this do the trick (i.e. load this on my cab in lieu of Daphne and the needed roms) if all I want is Dragon's Lair??

I have the version previous to that (DOS) and it pretty much sucks.  =)  Can't verify that version though.

Here's the gist:
The cdrom versions have crappy video.
the laserdisc versions have pauses between frames, so the timing feels wrong. And the video seems to jump around.

To hit a good balance between lazy and planning for the future I would suggest buying the 20th Anniversary 3 pack DVD of Dragons Lair (1 & 2) and Space Ace. You can play the dvd on your pc, you get good quality video and if you're feeling ambitious down the line you can rip the video to use with Daphne.

Did anyone notice that Dragon's Lair 3 just came out?!!!

It is worth having DL and SA on your emulator cabinet
IF you stay away from all CD/DOS versions,
and just buy the DVD-ROM versions, and use ripping tools
along with the Daphne Emulator.
Then you get perfect gameplay, and decent looking video.

Playing the game right off of the DVD-ROMS (using
the programming that Digital Leisure did, is not 100% accurate)

As far as DL3,

RUN... RUN  RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN TO GET AWAY FROM THIS.

Someone at Digital Leisure thought it would be a good idea
to charge more money for WATCHING SOMEONE ELSE PLAY
DRAGONS LAIR 3-D.

Yup.. Thats what DL3 really is....
Recorded video of Dragons Lair 3-D, where YOU get to
move UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT at certain parts of the game.

Whoever came up with this idea at D.L. should be canned.
