Title: ISO Tron Side Art...Please!!!
Post by: conseit68 on May 13, 2005, 10:42:49 am
In brief, I have constructed and Tron bartop similar to the one on the examples page. However, I would like the machine to have the original side art. So, can anyone out there help me out with this. I figure since the images are mostly photographic, illustrator is out. But, being that my machine has the dimensions of approx. 24"W x 24" D then a high res picture should be workable through PS. Also, I need the image that is directly below the control panel, hopefully everyone understands what I am talking about. Thanks in advance for everyone's assistance.

I've got a huge (approx. 400 mByte) scan of the sideart on CD that is pretty clean.

Rohan...that works for me. If you can scale the side art down to something approx. 24" x 24", that should make it a workable size. Also, concerning the part below the CP, whatever you have I will clean and vertorize as necessary. Thanks greatly, my e-mail is conseit68@comcast.net when your ready.

I shrunk it a little and compressed the hell out of it to make it a easier to send...I started with a 400mb *.tif, and ended up with a 7.5 mb *.jpg and I'll e-mail it to you sometime today.
Below is a super crappy compressed and shrunken example of what I've sent.
Also, is the second pic the art you want from my Tron?

rohan...you kick ass...I am in the process of vertorizing everything short of the primary photo...I did not however receive the lower control panel image. So if you get the opportunity could you please send it to conseit68@comcast.net

Thanks again you are a savior,
Matt

I'll take the photos this week; probably on wednesday...Looking forward to the results, and please submit your work to the Library when you're done.  You vectorizer guys are the ones that really kick ass.

I was able to cut out just the photographic portion into a 7.8 mb jpg if you just want to overlay that when you're done.  I'm sure it's much less lossy than the one I sent.  I'll be taking the detailed photo of the other portion of the art, but the example a couple of posts above is perfect for color and proportion reference.  Zorg is also interested in vectorizing the sideart, and he should now have a copy.  You should maybe post on the vector WIP thread so you guys don't step on eachother's toes.  I hear he's pretty fast ;D

no one can deal with the inner photo.
this part MUST stay bitmap.
my idea was to trace all the parts except the inner pic,  and to provide a vector/bitmap combo.

advantage the overaly will be really nice and the inner pic will not loose any resolution.
and finally the weigth of the file will drastically reduce.

as I will not touch to the inner pic, I guess you will have to handle everything ;-)
anyway if you need anything do not hesitate to be in touch

Photos of the portion under the CP have been taken, and will be sent via e-mail today.  Post some WIP for the sideart when you can...
I didn't mean that you should vectorize the photographic portion.  I was thinking you should overlay a higher quality version of the photograph than I previously sent you over the vectorized Portion.  The scan I have is actually more detailed than the repro version that came with my machine >:(  I'll send the sideart photo after I send the part under the CP today.

The photos didn't turn out as well as I would have liked.  I will take more with and without the flash.  Below are a few pics I took today.

Ok..I have started the lower control panel. Two problems though:

First - I need the true colors as the image that I am going off of is faded to hell.

Second - It appears that the image is slightly cocked to the left and is missing some of the top, can someone confirm this for me. I am going off of "tron6.jpg" below.

Thanks again, with the above information I should be done by the end of the day.

For proper colors, I would just use CONTROLPANEL-TRON-FRONT.JPG from the above thread.  It should also give you the missing portion as the CP overlaps that portion on my machine.  I think I have a more faded version of this part somewhere in my garage, but as least its not covered.  I will take pictures of that one if you still need it. tron6.jpg is indeed slightly cocked to the left because I just held the camera because I don't have a tripod.

Finaly traced the tron side art  :D

I ended as previously mentioned in creating a mix of vector and bitmap image.
the inner photo still bitmap and al the rest is vector.

it only still 2 problems problems
1) is that the file still weigth a lot  (58,6 Mb) ;(
2) if Instead of a photoshop included file, I use a jpg (10 mb) file, illustrator need quite an our to open the file on my comp (old 500 Mhz G3 laptop)

you know, you choose.

check http://edeveaud.free.fr/tron/

you need either:

Well done...Which source file did you use?  Did you use the 400 mbyte one that I sent to Mahuti?  If not, I can cut out that photo, if you need a better picture and send it to you.

I cropped my scan and compared it to yours; they look EXACTLY the same in terms of quality and size.  There's no need to send you anything...Now all you have to do is figure out how to host it at localarcade.com
