Title: Best tool for cutting Happs Bezel
Post by: Dagg on May 11, 2005, 02:25:44 pm
My HAPPS 27" bezel is a bit wide and a bit tall,  what is the best tool for a clean cut on this type of plastic, what have you used and what were the results?

Best way is to score it with a utility knife and a straight edge.  Then we you bend it along the line it will break off cleanly.  Same as one of the techniques for cutting plexi but much easier.

You can use a table saw (I did), but you better be sure you have a sharp blade or it will chip.  A router may also do well if you can clamp a board to it for a guide.

I second the scoring method. Make sure you use a metal straight edge if you can, though. And you might want to mark it in ink or something first. If you score without a guideline you risk moving the straight edge as you score.

"Don't ask me how i know."

Table saws and routers both seem overkill.

Try a Dremel tool.

I cut my last marquee with one.

And that was plexi.

I think a utility knife is easier to handle, quicker, and more forgiving.

zip zip zip zip bend bend bend bend done!

I ended up using a dremel which I originally purchased to do the t-molding slot, and it came out great.

The bit I used is like a mini table saw blade.  I dont think it was included but I picked it up at Depot when I bought the dremel.

Thanks again!

I used the utility knife w/ straight edge to cut the bezel slightly larger than what I needed and then used a small planer to trim the edged to an exact fit.

Any other suggestions?  I'm about to trim my 19" one and I don't want to mess it up.  Also, I have to round the corners of the bezel so it will fit in the cutout for my cocktail table top...  It's pretty thick material...
