Last month I had over
-
If your paypal password is even remotly close to oh say a forum password.. thats how..
Forum passwords, are generally easy as hell to get..
-
You know I was thinking that. We use passwords for all sorts of sites. Paypal requires an email address & password to get into it. Nearly all forums require a password & email address. I guess I must of used the same password for paypal as I did on some other site. Time to change all my forum passwords to some thing different

i just use a basic password for forums..
Email addresses that are tired to accounts taht use money, i use long passwords that are totally different from my forum passwords..
-
Sound advice. I think i'm going to setup a reminder each month the change my passwords too
-
After reading this, I promptly went to PayPal and changed my password... :o
-
Whoa. Really good advice, I just changed my ebay password also.
-
After reading this, I promptly cheered for myself for not using PayPal
Sounds like those emmer effers are the biggest hosebags on the planet, when they should be looking at themselves as something more akin to a bank or credit union and act similarly to foster trust in themselves in order to make even MORE money.
-
In their defense, they provide a provide a pretty useful service. Otherwise I'd have to deal with checks, sign up for credit card processing, etc.
-
Oh, I'm not disputing that they provide a useful service, I'm just saying there's folks out there like me who won't/don't want to use them for reasons just like this, and if they figured out a way to develop a better system to handle complaints like this, they may make themselves even more money, because I might look more favorably upon them.
I realize they provide a service to folks. It just seems that when things go wrong, they go HORRIBLY wrong, instead of just "I can deal with that, guess I was dumb to give that a shot" wrong.
-
Best thing to do now would be to disable the access to your bank account. I did that after reading of episodes like yours. Paypal for me is linked to a credit card that has a low limit. I tried paypal-ing something a while ago that was over the limit of the card, and lo and behold it didn't allow it to go through. :D
I figure that if they ever hacked the account and really got me, the worst they could get is $1000. It wouldn't kill me. If they got into my main account though...whoo...there goes that ferrari I wanted :o
-
I had just got my wages paid in, if paypal hadn't disabled my account they could of hosed the lot! Its ironic how they managed to take me overdrawn, yet when I tried to go over my limit once, my bank refused it.
Anyway, i've opened a new bank account & i'm going to leave it empty, but top it up when I need to pay something with paypal. I wish palpal had a more secure login procedure like my bank does. A password & email address must be the simplest form of security.

Soapboy, reading you often sounds like you're HC's lesser known twin.
Your typical response seems to be "if you do things I don't do, you'll hose everything except your ten-speed bike you have locked in the basement"
You also read as if even if you EVER made a mistake and did something that would lead to you getting hacked, you certainly wouldn't embarrass yourself and tell us it might happen.
I haven't ever been hacked or had stuff stolen from accounts of mine I have online either. I just try to point stuff out without trying to slam or label people as helmet-wearing drooling idiots.
Hey, guess what, my way of doing things is even more foolproof than yours. Not having an account means I can't ever get hacked. Does that make you an even bigger idiot than me? ::) Get over yourself. You read like a low-rent HC, who actually brings the help card out.

I just can not afford the risk of pay pal.
money orders all the way or no deal. believe me it sucks. but that's life.
$1,000 to me would kill me. 1/2 a year at least.
I have $1,000 in a new mower that keeps breaking down and my wife is in tears now and fell asleep whimpering now as I type.
nothing gets me mad enough to kill as fast as seeing my wife so upset.

Whatever man.. You're just like those stupid old people who refuse to get a "checking card" because OMG they might lose it or something equally retarded..
Reading's not a strong point for you, or else interpretation of what was read is lacking. Either way, you're wrong, but don't worry. I won't tell anyone. As for "staying the hell out of a paypal thread", I'll fall back on the "I couldn't help myself for opening it and couldn't stop from replying" defense people employ for whining about threads they don't want to see.
I guess reading something for the sake of reading isn't something you're in the habit of doing. I'll continue with MY idea, since yours seems to only benefit yourself.
Jesus Christ
loves you.

I used a totally unique password for my PayPal acount, and it was hacked too. I will not sign up again. This is why I deal only in cash, money order, or cashier's check (and cash is the only way that has no wait time).
-
I have my Paypal linked to a separate bank account at a different bank than my main one. I keep like $3 dollars in there. If I want to buy something using Paypal, I deposit that amount. Anytime I get paid on Paypal, I withdraw it immediately. If anyone ever hacked my account, all they would get is like 6 bucks, tops.

since you dont have a paypal account, nor do you have interest in paypal, how about you stay the hell out of a paypal thread?

ROFLMAO!
You guys are too much. Anyhow, HarumaN has the right idea. "Win" an auction, transfer funds, send payment. It's not a good idea to have paypal tied into an important account in case they freeze it for whatever reason. That's what leads people to hate paypal. If you use a secondary account, you won't miss a house payment or anything drastic.
How did the thief get the stuff shipped elsewhere? I thought paypal forced the stuff to be shipped to the confirmed address?
-
I ended up getting hit with
-
its east london
why not get in contact with the local cops
here is map lof the location
but chances are it will be a false name anyway
-
Paypal & my bank have said they refer all these matters though a fraud division. I'm assuming this will involve the police if they prove I am innocent (Which seems to be the case :) )
Ok i've just been reading his feedback for the Salvia Leaf he won:
The seller said "I sent the item then paypal payment did not clear, now will not pay!"
Joseph's (the crook) reply was "fek you, go and dye, i dont care. you stopid foool"
Looks like he isnt the most mature of crooks!!!
EDIT: it may be a false name, but The address must be correct otherwise how would he get his goods? From the response above, I doubt he is a master criminal
-
its probably somewhere selling takeaway pizza or something - used as a delivery location
they will just say they never heard of him and no packages have been delivered there
-
By the way, the guy who got into my account put this as his address.
Joseph Ali 64 Quaker Street London, London E1 6SW United Kingdom
Anyone want to pay him a visit for me :police:
And this is his ebay user profile
4223joseph
http://contact.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReturnUserEmail&requested=4223joseph&iid=5574746299&frm=284
Shiver...!
That name is very similar to a Joseph Salih with whom I've recently had an unpleasant ebay experience. Interestingly enough he also lives in E1 (i.e within a stone's throw) although not at that address.

This is the same guy who won't GHOST/drive image his "gaming" machine yet reinstalls OS/etc frequently dispensing derision on folks who irrationally wont' do something without understanding it fully.
And really, let's not diminish HC as he has his own special brand of forum smackdown, eh?
Back on Topic: I keep a separate checking/savings account at my credit union specifically for paypal. If some fraudelent buyer reverses or makes a fake claim, or
someone hax0rs my account, my mortgage checking account is distinct from the one paypal is aware of.
I also use a temporary disposable CC number when dealing with paypal, as I do like the convenience, but trust them as far as I could throw them. I'm glad the original posters dispute resolution was succesful, but I've heard too many horror stories of attached/locked bank accounts not to be wary.
Good strong passwords that aren't shared are important as previously noted.

Not to dig up a dead/dying thread...But I figured I'd pass on a piece of software to help those who are putting off changing/using complex passwords.
Password Safe (http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/)
It's freeware and opensource, and it encyrpts your password storage file quite well from what I understand...I use it, and it makes password administration easy and relativly safe.
-
If you use a simple retarded password, thats also used elsewhere, itll get hacked
If you are stupid enough to fill out those scam form that come in your email, itll get hacked
If you are stupid enough to download misc attachments that contain keygens itll get hacked
Is this the same SOAPBoy who slagged everybody for jumping on newbies about asking "will my computer run Game X in MAME" without checking the FAQ ???
Difficult to reconcile ... other than the way he slags DrewKaree (who wasn't even in form in this thread) ... :P
Cheers.
