I'm wondering, among those of you that have put 27" televisions in your cabinets, how deep did your cabinet have to be to accommodate the television? I'm mostly interested in cabinets NOT built on the UA II plans.
Right now I'm thinking I might have to make it 41" deep overall, and that sounds pretty big. I'm basing my cab off of jakobud's plans. His was 35" deep, but he only put a 24" tv in it. Granted, it was a WEGA, and those are as big as they come.
Right now I'm mainly considering the Toshiba 27A34 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6300594&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03003&id=1074787240558). It is 19.75" deep, and 22.5" high. Taken as is, it would not fit in Jakobud's cabinet.

Your measurements are off somewhere, 41" deep is huge. The toshiba at 20" deep is about the same as my 27" tv and my cab fits it like a glove. I'll measure it for you but I think just the cab without the cp is about 24" deep.
EDIT: At the top of the slope right below the marquee it's 21" deep. At the widest part of the slope at the bottom of the monitor area it's 27" deep. Due to the angle it's at theres about 2" between the tv and the glass at all points. The cab at the bottom is also 27" deep.

I have a 27" tv in my cab and it's not based on UAII plans but more like midway (nba jam) style but to suit me. The depth of the cab will depend on how far back you have the tv, the slope and the size of the tv case. Check my link on the left to see what I did.

Yeah, it does sound like I was way off. Jakobud warned me that he had to make adjustments to get his tv in there, so I just want to avoid potential problems.
Having said that, I certainly don't want to make the cab much bigger than it needs to be.

I have that exact same TV (but no cabinet yet).
I bought some graph paper and sketched out a few different versions of cabinets to scale, with different angles (10 degrees, 20 degrees, 30 degrees, etc). I also measured the TV and drew that to scale on the graph paper. Then, you can easily hold both sheets of paper up to the light and see how it fits at different angles. Pretty cool, if you don't have software.
Like someone said earlier, it depends on the angle mostly. It also depends on how deep the screen is in your cabinet. Generally though, I'm finding 36" to be adequate for most scenarios.

36" it is, then! ;D Thanks for your help. I don't have the tv yet, and I start cutting tomorrow, if all goes to plan. :P

Good luck, just don't make the cab deeper than it needs to be. That's something I would have regretted every time I looked at my 4 player tecmo bowl sized cab that I made because I wanted to make sure the screen would fit ;)
