I was just doing a bit of browsing to find if anyone has made progress with multiple mice in XP and ran across Mouse Party
-
they comment that it only works with games that are compatable. so far there is only one and it's some sort of matching game. i'd love to hear more though, like it's usability with mame (obviously).
-
Exactly!
Maybe whatever they are doing could solve our multiple trackball, spinner, rotating joystick, steering wheel, lightgun woes
-
i just emailed teh support guys on their site to show interest in them joining the Mame develpmental team to incorporate this into MAME.
I sent them links to mame.net and to this thread.
-
I also found these interesting links regarding Raw Input or DirectInput but I have no idea if this is what the MouseParty guys are using

Good job Hoagie!
It would be nice if this sort of support was built into MAME
But perhaps it wouldn't even have to be...

I just emailed him as well and posted in the Mouse Party forum:

I've also found a similar page where they have actual software available so that you can control at least 2 seperate cursors with 2 seperate mice. I've just tried this out and it actually works using 1 PS2 mouse and 1 USB mouse.
http://grouplab.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/software/SDGT/
It has a load of test programs for the application and it requires a microsoft.net framework however if this were capable of running this in conjunction with the up coming GCon2 driver it will be extremely interesting indeed.

I see that the next version of AdvanceMAME will add support for multi-mice in XP.

AdvanceMAME Version 0.96.0 2005/05
) Improved the support for low clocks of the SVGALIB
nVidia driver for DOS and Windows.
) Readded in the DOS and Windows version the old
SVGALIB drivers for GeForce and Savage boards.
If you have problem with the new driver
you can still use the old ones with the
names "savage_leg" and "nv3_leg".
) The `advv' and `advcfg' utilities are now compiled
and installed only if needed.
) Fixed the detection of the new `unichrome' driver in DOS.
) Added support for multiple mice in Windows XP using the
new `rawinput' mouse driver.
) Added support for multiple mice in Windows 2000 using the
new `cpn' mouse driver.
It says 2005/05 so I guess this should be out any time now :)
I'd like to know more about this new `rawinput' mouse driver.

Wow that is GREAT NEWS. RawInput support in AdvanceMAME (appearently with the .96 release) is just what is needed to support multiple mice in XP (this is how AnalogMAME does it). Hurrah!
-
Apparently this is the CPN mouse driver that they will be using:
