Noir is pretty good too.
-
Battle of the Planets and Star Blazers were on when I was a kid too!
I watched a lot of Robotech on TV in my twenties.
Speed Racer! (It IS anime, just very old)
I generally prefer the movie length animes.
Akira
The Profesional: Golgo 13

Beck
Azumanga Daioh
Stellvia of the Universe
Samurai Champloo
Serial Experiments Lain
Battle Athletes Victory
Now and Then, Here and There
Love Hina
For Otraotaku, I'd highly recommend checking out Samurai Champloo if you haven't already, based on the list in the original post...
-
Inuyahsa
Vision of Escaflowne <Loved the show...The movie OK - A totally different retelling of the series>
Cowboy Bebop
Ninja Scroll <Cut my teeth in the anime world with this one>
Also heard good things about Bubblegum Crisis
Xar256 ;D
-
I have seen some of the BubbleGum Crisis but they didn't impress me all that much. There not bad, but not great.
-
I recommend Vision of Escaflowne.
As well as Shoji Kawamori's other creation, Macross(or just MAcross Plus if you can't handle low-budget animation).
On a totally unrelated note, Magical Project S is good if you'd like a magical girl spoof
On the manga side, I strongly recommend Magic Knight Rayearth. I haven't seen most of the anime, but as I understand it they dropped one of my favorite plot twists in entertainment history.
Similar recomendation goes to Wish.
-
Full Metal Panic
Monster
-
I've never realy been into Anime at all untill they started showing Ghost in the Shell: SAC on Adult Swim. I have vol 1, 2 & 4 on DVD so far! :)
My GF is totally into Fullmetal Alchemist. I think it's pretty cool too, but she's like obsessed! She's got vol 1 & 2 so far.
-
I love Rurouni Kenshin it's a great series
i spent $720 on the full dvd set to get it :)
I don't have to much time to watch anime but i got spirited away for Xmas and i must say that is a very good movie.
It is kind of a kids movie but it has some wonderful scenes its like a moden version of lupin III (style wise)
i reccomend it fully :)
-
Steamboy is pretty good.
-
Lain is a good series. MY favorite series by far is Neon Genesis Evangelion. That series kicks --I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules-- (although the movie: End of Evangelion was far better than the end in the series.) There is even a live-action Evangelion in the works. :D
FLCL is good, too.
-
Cowboy Bebop
Armitage
Battle Angel
Ghost in the Shell
Have seen the entire Escaflowne series but didn't care for it too much.
Nice anime choices Elfman, I'll add Evangelion and Lain to that list also. For manga my favs are Battle Angel Alita, Aqua Knight, Shadowstar, Alien Nine, Planetes, Video Girl AI, DNA2, Ghost in the Shell, Riot, Silent Mobius, Evangelion and Gunsmith Cats.
-
Fruits basket, Hajime no Ippo (boxing show), Bleach, One Piece, Shaman King, F Zero GP Legend (kinda lame), Wolf's Rain (AWESOME), Hellsing (Also AWESOME)

-
I've caught a couple on Cartoon Network. I'll wait for them to be released on DVD so I can watch the English subtitles. I usually don't watch them Englished dubbed.
-
my list includes a lot of the above but the top of my list is anything by miyazaki...(http://japanimation.com/jstore/series/totoro/img/totoro01.gif)
-
How about Legend of the Overfiend?
;D
Is that Urotsukidoji? For some reason that Japanese word is easier for me to remember than the english translation.
I rented it back in the very early ninties from a mom and pop video rental joint who had it with other "Japanese cartoons" in the rack next to the Disney/family stuff. The thousand weener'd super raper demon thing made a nice contrast to Donald Duck.

Thanks all, good thread! I'm not really much of an anime expert. However, I'll have to say that if Netflix is good for one thing, is that it 'recommends' DVDs that I never would have even considered.
Akira showed up on my Recommendations list, I rented it, and am now a big fan of Anime. I have also rented Coboy Bebop, Evangelion, Rahxephon, and a few others. Now I have some more stuff to add to my queue! :D
-
G-Force
Star Blazers
Robotech
There is an awesome Megas XLR episode where they fight a team based on G-Force.
-
Porco Rosso :)
