Title: AdvancedCD on USB
Post by: SirPoonga on May 02, 2005, 10:45:19 am
Anyone here do this?  I'm trying to get AdvanceCD to work on my 1GB GeekSquad USB drive since I see they made it possible.

The problem I think is my BIOs.  I have an Abit Kv-80 motherboard.  When I specify boot devices and order - USB-FDD, USB-CDROM, and USB-LS120 are the only options available.  There is a Boot Device - Other that you can enable or disable.  All the motherboard manual says about that is to enable it to boot form a device not listed.  I tried that.  I wonder if I have to set the others in the device order to none first.

Maybe setting the others to none will work.

Did you look for a new bios that might enable that option?

There isn't a new bios.  This board is so new there hardly is any reviews for it.  Actually, it is so new they aren't mirroring the manual.  It is only linked on the .tw site, and that is the only place to find it online.

When I get home I will have to try setting the other boot devices to none and see what happens.  If that doesn't work I will have to write a letter to abit suggesting to support the other USB drive devices.

Yep, I will revise what I said, no new bios that deals with new boot devices.  That basically deals with cooling, since I don't have a sempron I really don't need it.  The cooling is suppose to be great with the athlon.  But I have been trying out fan configurations lately.  I can get my proc to run cooler than what other people reported, even with other processors.  On load it stays just below 40C and peaks at 40.5C.  My original fan config it hovered around the normal 44C.  If I use Artic Silver and a good (not stock) heat sink and fan I think i could have it run lower than that.  I'm trying to get the system to run as quiet as possible during idle (and at load if it is a side effect :) ), hence running it as cool as possible (cooler means lower RPM speeds which means less noise).  Well, quiet as possible without water or vapor cooling :)  A water cooling fan can produce a decent amount of noise too.  Might get that Silenx fanless GPU cooler to eliminate one of the fans in the system.

I will have to check what bios version in on my board.  With my cooling results I'd think I have the latest cooling technology in it.  If not I will definately update the bios to the rev.
