I am lucky enough to have a printer that will print on 24" roll paper. When I need to build a control panel I can just print out the overlay, tape it to the wood, and drill right through the template.

However, you can do something similar with a regular inkjet printer. Snag some LEGAL size paper (8.5x14) and just print overlapping sections of the template. Then you can tape the sections down onto the wood so it looks just like it had been one template.

I'd like to have a CP template to print. ;D
May I ask where you got yours? or what program you used to make them? They look very detailed.

I laid out everything in Photoshop.
The individual controls (buttons, joysticks, etc.) are available in a couple of different places:

It's an Epson 7600 with Ultrachrome Inks.

mark, you oughta make it a business. I definitely could use a cheaper overlay than what some of these companies charge.

Mark, even if you don't want to do overlays, I'll bet a lot of people would be willing to pay a package of printed control panel templates.
Doing custom ones would be a nightmare, but a half dozen stock ones would cost you little to print and would probably be worth $5 a pack to BYOAC members.
-
I'm one of those who would....!
-
I'd have to agree that a pack of stock templates could prove really useful

Here is a link I used that showed me how to do just that. ;D

Awesome printer! Newegg didn't even list it. How much does one cost?

Roughly $3,000 depending on where you get it. Different retailers will offer specials from time to time.
