Title: ArcadeVGA and Mamewah Res tool
Post by: psychlone78 on April 29, 2005, 10:52:58 pm
Hello Gamerz,
I just got my ArcadeVga installed with my WG d9200. I downloaded the mamewah res tool and allowed it to automatically set the best resolutions for all games. Is this setting native resolutions? I don't know but for some reason I thought that the picture would look better. For a lot of games like Ms. Pacman and Galaga the words have little horizontal lines going through them. Is this what is considered good. It kinda bothers my eyes. What do I need to do to get these games looking awesome, as promised by other AVGA users? ???

Vertical games cannot have authentic resolutions set for them on horizontal monitors when rotated.  You are trying to force 288 line modes on a 240 line display, which means you will lose line information.

Visual explanation here:
http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/blit.html

Your choices are:

a) Accept the limitations

b) Use a blitter/stretch mode (eg: Use 640x480 with ddraw stretch)

c) Use something like AdvanceMAME which compensates for such problems with the above linked blitters

d) Play your vertical games on a separate vertical display.

e) Make your cabinet's monitor rotatable :)
