I get a direct input error whenever I try to run an emulator that uses direct input. Anybody know how to fix this? I NEED to play on my emulators. Thanks for any help. ??? Oh, btw, I didn't post this in the software forum because people just dont respond to this there...
-
And not too many people are going to respond here ... at least until you explain what is happening exactly ... and what specific emulators you are using ... and the OS ... and the hardware ... .
-
We'll in the first topic (in the software forum) I explained that I was using mame32 (and then showed the error below), but then I found out today that any emulator that uses direct input shows me the error also. Mame 32 gives me "DirectInputCreate failed! error=80004005" and then after tells me to get directX, which I already have. NESten gives me 'Error : -2147467259 Failed to create Direct Input Object! There is an undefined error condition". I'm using XP pro, and I'm sure it's not a hardware issue, because I had these running before on this computer. If you really want to know it's an amd 64 3000+ with 512mb ram and radeon 7500.

That helps ... what kind of controls are you using ?
Specifically, are you using USB interfaces ???
-
Yeah, I want to use my unfinished mame cab's CP that uses an i-pac.
-
Have you tried uninstalling all of your USB components in Windows and then rebooting ?
-
Ok, I'll try that, you mean like all my mouse, keyboard, and gamepad/joystick drivers?
-
Yep, all of them, including hubs (if any)
-
Just bumping this to find out if MooShoo got things worked out.
-
No, it didn't. Any more advice? Thanks so far.
-
Hmmm ... Direct Input errors in XP are often USB-related (XP gets confused).
Are you fully updated on XP and DirectX ?
-
try uninstall usb driver.
restart pc
-
Yeah I'm fully updated with XP and DirectX (9.0c I think).
-
How many USB devices are you running ?
If you uninstall them all, then reboot, then install one and run your emulator, does it work ? Try repeating with other devices.
Are you using a hub ? Try without running through the hub ?
-
No hub. I'm just using a USB mouse, the i-pac, a gamepad, and a joystick. My keyboard is ps/2. I'll try uninstalling everything except the mouse.
-
Uninstall the mouse too (then use Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Shut Down menu).
-
I read about a patch on windowsupdate that resolves this issue... are you up to date?
-
Yeah, theres no autoupdate popups and I've even checked on the windows update site.
