bumped into these on ebay if anyone is interested (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13718&item=6174586925&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)

did you post those here first?
-
decent price, cept you've got to put up with the funky colors. whats with the prototype joust reference?
-
not my auction...not sure. thats why i posted it here.
-
From memory, but the prototype Joust reference is because the prototype's of Joust used 49-ways. At some point they switched to 2-ways.
-
They are missing the spiders.
I would be concerned that they were 8-way bubbles sticks if they were both blue. The pastel yellow one has me believing his description.
It would be cool to have nos 49 ways in Williams colors for a multi williams project. If it were mame powered, with the GGG 49-way boards you could do away with *some* of the quirky-ness of playing joust/defender with 8-ways.
-
good catch on the spiders...i dind't even notice. after that fact, the price stinks. you can get a better deal elsewhere, unless you really wanted joust prototype joysticks... :P
if you wanted, you could always have tom at specialty plastics make you up some balltops in different colors. i asked him if he could do black and he said that would be fine. now i just have to decide if i want to keep my williams even though i'll have happs ones...(i've got three, so one will be coming to this board soon)
-
Those weren't just on the prototypes, some Jousts actually shipped with 'em. I dunno if they're actualy 49-ways, or optical 2-ways. Still need the spiders, though.
-
Actually, just looked at the pics- there aren't enough pins to be 49-ways, they must be 2-way only. I wonder if Joust's equipped with these sticks have 3 different speeds of L-R motion?
-
oh man...that would be cool. yeah, they only go in one direction (optical switches). so wouldn't that make it a 7 way, or something?
-
My guess is that they are like the Bubbles sticks, except 2-way. The Bubbles stick only has one set of optics per direction. Basically they are on/off 8-ways.
Of course you can't tell a thing from his pics, and the price is too high to bug him for more pics.
I would guess that these would play much nicer than worn out joust 2-ways.
