Title: Another Xp question
Post by: menace on April 28, 2005, 11:10:35 am
Does anyone know if its damaging to the OS to shut it down without going through a proper shutdown on a regular basis?  Also, is it possible to dissable that disk checking when you have shut it down "improperly"?

It's damaging to the filesystem.  Not shutting down properly could lead to file corruption.  XP does have a nice feature that if enabled when you hit the power button it shuts itself down graciously.

I like to use that function with a relay off the floppy power cable the turns the other hardware off/on.

I actually use that function on my cab.  Iused the leads off the motherbard for a case power switch and wired it to a back happ pushbutton hidden on my cabinet.

I've also got it hooked up to a smartstrip.  One button power on and power off for the whole cabinet, it's nice.
