Subject : Rust on Coin Mech
I am currently rebuilding an old cabinet and the base of the
coin mech is rusted. What is the best way to both remove the rust and
protect it in the future.
It appears that the reason for the rust is that when the coin drops
through the mechanism it scratchs the metal, resulting in an unprotected surface. I was thinking of simply removing the rust with a wire brush, painting the metal and then using clear contact to protect that part of the mechanisms that is being
scratched by the coins.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Wire brush, sand paper, scouring pads work well. At least it did for me.

Use it more, the quarters will keep it clean. ;D
