I currently have a missile command cab (original) that is set on free play. I was told that the coin operation works, it was just detached for free play... 2 questions:
1) how do i "turn it on" to accept quarters?
2) once it accepts quarters, is it hard to convert to accept tokens?

To take off free play there is probably a dipswitch to set. Read manual, can find one at klov I believe.
You may need to wire up the coin door then, it sounds like.
Then it's just a matter of replacing the mech box behind the coin door with one that accepts tokens of the size you are going to use.

most coindoors make it easy to switch coin mechs. you usually only have to unscrew 2 screws to slide the old mech out, and then you just put the appropriate mech in it's place, and screw back down. most coin mechs are the exact same size, so replacement is straightforeward. now there are exceptions, but they are few and far between.

In fact some coin doors just have a little latch that holds the mech on, which means you don't need any tools at all to swap them out. If you're handy you can fiddle with the mechs that you've got to make them accept any kind of coin/ token. The Nasty has posted a how to on this, I'm sure you can find it without too much trouble.

Yep, you can always make a generic cardboard chute for the token to travel down...
