Man, if I was local, I'd be all over this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6171730045&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
It looks nice. :D
-
There is just something so wrong about that ...
-
at least he kept it as original as possible
-
It looks to me like the guy saved the cabinet. It still feels bad to look at it though.
-
The only thing that feels bad to look at to me is that idiot grouping of 4 buttons in the center of the panel. Pageup and pagedown buttons, never seen those before.
-
I don't think the seller is the one who drilled out the CP (based on his comments) ... THAT guy I'd like to have a word with ...
The cabinet looks great ... and Detroit is only a 2.5 hour drive or so .... and I do want a real DL ... man would that look great in the game room .... putting that on my watch list ...
-
I'll put good money on it getting bought by someone who will unmame it anyway. I wouldn't personally unmame it (but I would try for an original panel).
-
no great loss regardless.. dragons lair is imho a crap game... all that jazz and you get to move the jstik in a few directions.. never played the arcade version but I got it for everything else.. me nore the dozens of people I have had over that have played it could ever get past the bridge.. now a game that requires schooling to play is crap..
peace out!

It doesn't stand the test of time. But when everything was 8-bit and this game was animated with cells it was jaw dropping. Starcade made it a special game for many of us as well.

Regardless of the button config. The cab is cool looking and the control panel can totally be reconfigured.
I personally would not unMAME it myself, but I would pick up a panel and reconfigure the buttons.
I didn't post this to attract "I hate Dragon's Lair game play" posts. I posted this for all the people like me who were awestruck by the game in 83, and still groove on the game and cab design today.
Hope someone here wins it and gives it a good home.

Our local arcade had one, but it had a 2nd monitor on top, did they get shipped that way, or was that something the arcade owner added on?
I loved the design of the cab, and still like the game (as well as Space Ace). Wish I lived closer and I'd seriously consider buying that cab :).
I'd RATHER have the 3 cabs that are up now, DL1, DL2 & SA, all 3 running and in very good condition:

Second monitor sitting on top was just a very common add on. You could splice in a regular TV to the wiring coming out of the laserdisc player.
-
Man, that's my dream Daphne cab...
...why must it be across the country? :P
-
I'm bidding on this but all I REALLY want is the monitor out of the cabinet. I plan on parting the rest. If anyone wants to do a combined bid or is willing to buy the cabinet off of me if I get it, let me know.

PM me if you win, no time to discuss details now, but I am interested.

wakerlet: Jeez, you want to just buy the VGA monitor I got? It'd be a lot cheaper.
I don't know when I'll have time to hack it to work with MAME. I'd just like to recover my losses best I can.
Thanks for posting the instructions BTW. If you don't end up taking it from me, I'll really need it to at least get some use out of it. Me and my stupid butt not reading the boards before bidding. :'(

Why would you have to hack a VGA monitor? Every one I have ever seen has had a VGA cable input on it.
Also, I have a feeling that cabinet is going to shoot WAY UP in the final minutes. Lets face it, add a $200 computer and Daphne to that thing and you could sell it for $1000+ and it wouldn't even take a long time to do.
-
If you win it and IF Paige doesn't end up taking the cabinet, I would also be interested (completely respecting the dibs).
-
Talk about a prime candidate for a Daphne setup.
Like many others here, I was floored by Dragons Lair the first time I saw it in the early '80s. Eventually I got good enough to play it all the way through on one go. Can't get nearly that far these days.

Now THAT was a snipe (not by me ... was just watching) ... sorry, wakerlet.
-
Figures. Lately, I just seem to be the person who jacks up the price of the auction and never ends up winning. Always a bidder but never a winner :) No worries.
-
Almost got sniped out of this one as well. ~$250 for a cab, star wars yoke, and a new monitor....not bad.

I bid $385 and was willing to drive from LA to get it. Bummer.
Anyone have any empty "Classic" cab or cocktail on the west coast?
And no, Street Fighter isn't a classic in my book.
Thanks,
Craig

I know most people don't like sniping, but using something like esnipe.com has helped me get several auctions on car parts & stuff I've needed over the years (if I get in a bid war that is, I don't use it otherwise). Costs a small fee to use (although with my acct being so old, I seem to never get charged for a winning bid??).

CA ALWAYS has GREAT cabs up for sale. I was considering moving out there a few months ago... I was excited by all the cab equipment I would be able to get!
Keep looking on ebay and you WILL find a TON of classic games in the CA area.
