Title: Help the newbie...
Post by: loungn14 on April 26, 2005, 10:21:54 am
Sorry for the boring post...but have searched everywhere for the answer...and have to ask..

First I would love to say that this forum is awesome.  I have been lurking for quite some time and the wealth of knowledge is incredible...

But...

I recently purchased a imperial trackball for the cab I am building..

Stupid question is ....  What direction is it mounted in?  I have noticed that it tends to spin to the left side after a second if positioned with the bottom and right roller.  If positioned with both bottom rollers at 45 degree angles and the third horizontal it seems to be fine... ( will be using with the optipac)

Sorry for the ignorance...been searching for days and can't seem to find the answer...

Thanks in advance...

Well, let me be the first to welcome you (and attempt a little help).

Now I've only had a Happ trackball, but it was easy to figure out which way was up because of the mounting plate.  If you are using a mounting plate it should be easy to do, and judging from this auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13718&item=6148096380&rd=1), a Happ one should work with your Betson (check the pics at the bottom).  Hope this helps a little.

Yeah, how many newbies can you make out back there in the shadows ... creepy ... if I hadn't already been there.  Welcome, as well, and hope you figured out how to mount that trackball.  I can't help as I've never owned one.

Does it reall matter in a MAME cab? I mean yes it matters if you're plugging it into an existing harness, but if you're connecting it to a hacked mouse or an Optipac, you could just as easily connect left & right to up & down & vice-versa. It would still work if mounted in the correct orientation.

Although I'm sure it's better to mount it correctly.

You can change it to whatever you want in MAME, but if you are also using it as a mouse in Windows  it is best to keep it in the proper orientation.

Here is what the inside looks like.

You can change it to whatever you want in MAME, but for Windows functionality it is best to keep it in the proper orientation.

If you connected up & down to left and right on the hacked mouse/ Optipac & vice versa, it would work correctly in Windows as well as in MAME, you wouldn't have to change any settings.
