Title: Fixing a marquee
Post by: Voodooray on April 24, 2005, 01:19:43 pm
Hi everyone. :)
It's probably very obvious, but i'm building my first cab and i can't figure out how to fix the marquee in place.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Most people use marquee holders that are used on real arcade machines. You can get them from Happs and other places too.

I didn't use them on my cab I made a wood frame that is hinged at the top and has magents at the bottom to hold it closed but marrquee holders are just find for most cab.

If you order the marquee holders, get them from ponyboy, save yourself that $25 minimum you need to spend at Happs and getting screwed with shipping.

Also search for some posts about using aluminum drop-ceiling supports. They are about 1.25" wide (guess), "L" shaped, and sell for like $4 in 10 or 12-foot lengths at Home Depot. Hack-saw and black paint and you are in business. Several people here have had success this way.

I just spent some time in an arcade looking at marquee brackets on different machines and several used similar arrangements (often times with a Happs bracket on the top and an aluminum "L" on the bottom).

My marquee lexan is recessed by 1" and currently held in by friction. I'm still brainstorming on a permanent home-brew solution but intend to try a variant of the "L" brackets I just mentioned.

never thought of the aluminium - i'm using the same method but it's that plastic l-shaped corner protector material.  you can buy a pretty long section at lowes or wherever for about $2. the kind i bought was clear but i painted it black and then just screwed it into the top and bottom of the marquee area on my cab. works great and changing marquees is a snap!
