Title: Accuracy Control Response
Post by: Searcher7 on April 23, 2005, 03:03:48 pm
Can anyone confirm whether or not it is possible to get the exact control response in MAME(for games like Star Trek, Millipede, Star Wars, ect.) as you get in the original arcade games.

I assume that this comes down to the degree that one can set the sensitivity of the settings, and I wanted to be sure that if I used the control panels taken off the original arcade games, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Thanks a lot.

Darren

You have to tune the settings, but you can get it exact. The problem is that it is almost impossible to correctly tune the settings without having a real machine next to the Mame cabinet.

And that is true in most cases.  There is another recent thread about Robotron playing faster in MAME than in the real hardware, and I'm not sure of a way to slow it down.

Aaron Giles rewrote the Williams driver for .95u4, and he's addressing the speed issue.  Not sure how accurate it is now.

That is a different issue, Robotron itself might not be slowing down correctly, but the controls are sure responding properly. Anyway, the poster was talking about analog games.

My buddy and I were playing Double Dragon on his cab the other day, and it chugged. Apparently the original did the same thing (I didn't remember that) and you can fix it by using a cheat file, which seemed like a ridiculous way to fix it, personally.

Getting back to the accuracy of control response. I guess my main concern is how sensitive the adjustments are in MAME.

I was thinking that I'd experiment with how far the shooter would go in Millipede if I were turn the trackball one revolution(360 degrees). But the speed one spins the trackball may also be a factor.

I would do something simular on my Star Trek arcade game.

Then try to duplicate the same in the respective MAME games.

Star Wars would be difficult.

Thanks.
