Title: Project 64 comparison
Post by: btoddkelley on April 23, 2005, 10:10:49 am
I have seen threads in the past (I think Howard Casto mentioned it specifically) saying that nintendo emulation is at about 65%. What do you guys think of the new project 64? Is it cab friendly enough to turn a n00b loose on a cab or do you believe it still in need of improvement? I don't think there is any doubt that 1.6 was a big improvement over 1.5 sp1, but is it up to snuff with the other good console emu's?
On a side note, If you are using Project 64 with adaptoids and you are playing a single controller game like Shadows of the Empire, plugging in a second adaptoid causes massive slowdown. Games that use multiple controls seem to work fine.

I'm running P64 v1.6 with 2 Adaptiods and no noticable slowdown. All my favorites seem to be working fine. Some games are a little glitchy but nothing bad. I think it's great!

I just loaded up P64 1.6 on my AthlonXP 1800 and played 2P Perfect Dark all night long without any trouble at all!  I played 1P Banjo and Kazooie for a little while this morning and there was noticible slowdown (definitely playable though).  So it seems your information is correct in my limited "test", but it hasn't affected the overall playability so far.

I'm using the default performance settings that were shipped with the software, except for the Video Plugin, which I had to bump down to the 1.51 version in order for P64 to start up at all.

I'm running P65 v1.6 with 2 Adaptiods and no noticable slowdown. All my favorites seem to be working fine. Some games are a little glitchy but nothing bad. I think it's great!

Try shadows of the empire with a single adaptoid and then add the second one. Shadows is a single controller game and for me it slows down when i add a second controller. I found this by accident when I had played a game and it ran fine, swiched to a 2 player game, and then switched back.
