Title: Best way to Diffuse light on an led?
Post by: AmericanDemon on April 22, 2005, 02:00:02 pm
I am trying to find a simple way to diffuse light on an LED.  It will probably be a superbright led.  Not sure of sizing yet.  But I was curious as to what everyone else has tried....

Do you want to diffuse it or just dim it?  If you want to dim it, give it less voltage.

I'm going to have to diffuse a couple of LEDs on a project of mine and thought of sandblasting/sanding one side of a piece of plexi and put over it.  The pieces I'm looking at will probably be around a nickle to quarter size.

Paint them with superglue and then sprinkle them with glass sandblast beads?

I haven't tried it, but it sounds like it should work :)

Sand the outside with 400 grit sandpaper. You can make it light more evenly by sanding the rounded end flat. A lot of PC case modders have used this technique to good effect.

You can just buy diffused LED's.

I tried looking for diffused ones... but alas, I could only find red ones.  I will try the sanding of them and see how it works out.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll try them one at a time.
