Title: P3 600mhz = Jukebox or MAME???
Post by: IntruderAlert on April 21, 2005, 10:58:26 pm
I have an old 600mhz system I'm not using any more
and I'm planning two MAME projects and one Jukebox project
Where do you think this old system would be most happy?

Depends on what type of games you like. For me it'd be enough, as there isn't much post-1990 that I'm interested in (and even then, mostly several years before that). My WIP bartop (that I will officially announce soonish) has a K6-2500 and that can handle most games that I want.

A p3 600 mhz will rock the socks off a horizontal Mame .55 install or a vertical mame .60 install. That is still a decent computer, don't waste it on a jukebox that could use a throwaway computer.

That depends, of course, on the jukebox software, too... some may not work well at 600 MHz or below.  If you are looking at specific software, check its requirements.

You could use my Front End (Atomic Fe)  as Jukebox and to run MAME game.

I use it on a old Celeron 533 with 256 mega Ram under win XP.

For little mame game is ok (i use a old FastMame) . And for Jukebox is fine.

I have just to avoid Animated layout on my machine.

Built in Jukebox of my front end is light in term of functionnality. But you can do playList and play it and have a nice look.

I haven't decided on the Jukebox software yet but it'll have to sift through hundreds of CDs worth of rips

You are on my same line of thinking though as I am planning one vertical and one horizontal MAME plus the jukebox
