I was wondering if there is a great Wireless Pocket PC that can play and support Emulated games such as N64,PS1,ARCADE, and GBA?...
-
I don't think there is anything out there that will play N64, Dreamcast, PSX... but I know there are PocketPC emulators for Lynx, Gameboy, NES, Genesis, and others in that timeframe. There is a PPC port of MAME as well.
-
So there is one able to play say.... Neo Geo, CPS2, and other arcade classics?

I can't say for sure about NeoGeo and CPS2, but there IS a mame port for pocketPC.... what exactly it can play I'm not sure.
Google "pocket pc emulator" and you'll get a good idea of what's available. I think you might be setting your hopes just a tad high, but I might be wrong. I haven't had a PPC in quite a while, so have fallen behind the trends.

The short answer is - not much. MAME on a pocket PC is a novelty, the controls are horrible, and the number of games supported very limited (Frogger, Pac Man, Ms. Pac, that era.).
-
I have an ASUS A716 and I can pretty much play any GBA game on it. It will also play some MAME, but I'm happy with SNES and GBA emulation. Metal Slug Advance runs perfect. You can also get a PS1 emulator and it runs good on the higher end PPCs that run at 400 Mhz or higher.
As long as you get a Pocket PC that has at least a 400 Mhz processor you'll be able to play most of the games on the emulator released for that OS.
-
I dont know about kawaks thou... I love playing my CPS2 games and always wanted to play them on the go, I wish they would make one with alot of buttons.... and that would support all PC software

How would you get a PS1 game onto a pocket PC? I thought they were pretty limited storage-wise.

1 GB CF card?
-
I have a pocket pc that is 200mhz and it will play snes games but no sound. I havent tried mame tho. One thing you'll find is that the directional pad and buttons are not designed for intense gaming. I'd recommend getting a fold up keypad.

I have a 4GB Microdrive and a 1GB SD card I use for storage
-
I use the SNES emulator in my PocketGalaga (http://arcade.laweb.nl/PocketGalaga/) (which contains a iPAQ 2210). MAME CE runs so slow on that PocketPC that it didn't even run Galaga smoothly (well without sound I guess it did, but that's hardly an option)
I "solved" the control issue by building the minicab. It's surprisingly playable (people have been playing so much on it that the CP artwork is ruined).

i hadnt seen your pocket galaga before, simply amazing!
is it basically a dock for your PPC?
even without the cool playablility you have there, it would be awesome. i wanna make one for my ipod now, just to charge it.there isnt much in the way of games on the ol pod, but it would look awesome.
do you have any more info on your construction process. more the cab contruction than anything else. amazing.
someone could make a gba one like that i bet too and there are a few arcade treasure type of games for gba....

Mame on anything other than an arcade cabinet is a novelty too!
For a handheld MAME solution I hear the GP32 works well:

Try google to find out what the GP32 is.
Sadly Haze denied the developer's request to allow him to distribute the port while he finishes his school work. The code is based on MAME .34
Joseph Elwell.

Haze didn't deny him. Hes just making him follow the rules..
and so you have to wait until his thesus is done before you can use it. He could release the source before then, but he chooses not to.

so i havent really gotten a yes or no, or an actual picture of a eligible Pocket PC....
so umm... yeah ;D
-
That's the same Pocket PC that I have ^_^ I love it! Any instructions on what you actually did? How'd you pull it off?
-
I say spend your money on a GBA SP or a PSP... You'll have way better games at your disposal.

It docks my PPC yes. I need it for navigation too, so I wanted to be able to take it out.
I don't have any more details. Just put some wood together so it all fits inside ;) I used Jakobud's plans (http://www.jakobud.com/) as a starting point and adapted that to fit iPAQ, controller and CP.

well, thats kinda where im comming from... And the reason for this is Not enough money to suport all my hobbies... i mean between PC software, Purchasing Arcade Equipment, Nintendo DS games, GBA games, and the rest of all my console systems... Its pretty tough... >.<
atleast with a pocket PC i could atleast use all my Roms,... that I have and play my fav's on the go...
-
I just got an Axim X50v for a guy at work (I do all the purchasing). It has a 624Mhz processor and a separate 3d video processor. I imagine that one could do quite a bit with that thing.
But in the end you always come back to the fact that the controls are awful. They are designed to work well in the calendar application, not a videogame. On the other hand, the thing has bluetooth, so I suppose a driver could be written for a bluetooth gamepad.
-
I guess that will always be the biggest drawback... btw has anyone heard of this Gizmondo thing?
I havent heard much on it in awhile... and also, if the PSP is hackable to the point that it can play Mame and Kawaks and Other Emulation yet?

Love it :)
