Title: Open source Scalable Vector Graphics editor for CP template design!
Post by: gust0208 on April 19, 2005, 10:34:53 pm
Hello everyone,

I have gotten some experience making full-sized templates for some 4-player CP's, but so far I had been restricted to using good (but expensive) programs like MS Visio or Adobe Illustrator.  I stumbled upon an open-source SVG editing program that is showing a lot of promise.  If you are interested in playing around with creating some templates, give it a look, and you can't beat the price! :^)

http://inkscape.org/     [All the downloads are hosted from SourceForge]

Hope this helps some people out, I am in the process of trying to export my Visio templates into a form that is readable/usable in Inkscape so people can download and edit them to their heart's content.

Cheers,
Tom

Other programs of a similar nature:

Dia (Linux/UNIX/BSD/MacOSX only):
http://www.gnome.org/projects/dia/

OpenOffice Draw (part of the OpenOffice package, available for all modern platforms including Windows):
http://www.openoffice.org/product/draw.html

OO Draw can export freely to PDF and SWF (Flash).  It can also import DXF CAD files, which can be output from programs like QCad, TurboCAD and AutoCAD.
