Title: Dreamcast Question 2: KVM Switch?
Post by: enemyace on November 21, 2002, 06:06:07 pm
Could I use PS/2 to Dreamcast adapters for my PC keyboard and mouse? And if so, could I hook up my DC (with VGA box) and my PC to a KVM switch and use it to switch between the two? This would enable me to use the same keyboard and mouse for both systems.

Thx again,
EA

1)  you mean something like this:
http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=29&products_id=716&PHPSESSID=574fcc193cabb3bb1f2503b3cc2847c9

Yeah, that should work.

2) What KVM?  If you don't have one Linksys makes AWESOME KVM switches.

If you're using a Total Control 5 for a mouse adapter, you need to have the KVM switched to Dreamcast before you power on the DC, otherwise the TC5 thinks you've plugged a keyboard into it. I'm not sure about other mice adapters.

If you havne't already got a keyboard adapter for DC, I recommend the Smart Joy 2( http://www.baysoftgames.com/dreamtoplaya.html ). It lets you use a keyboard as a DC controller, including mock analog. Meaning, you could plug in your keyboard encoder and use it in all DC games for a player, though you have to remap the encoder's key layout a little.

Yeah, exactly, I want to be able to use the same keyboard and mouse to play first person shooters on PC and Dreamcast.

I actually already have a DC keyboard, but I'd rather not have to switch between two keyboards.

SirPoonga, yeah, I was thinking of that exact adapter. They have a bundle of two of them for pretty cheap I think. How is Lik-Sang as a retailer? Do they ship to the U.S.?

Does anyone know if other mouse/keyboard adapters have the same problem as the one mentioned by tom61 (Total Control 5)?

Lastly, do you guys know if you can do the analog stick and the D-pad with a hacked Madcatz? I know not true analog, but the full press.

US is liksang's biggest consumer:)  M$ shut liksang down for abit when they were selling the xbox mod chip.
