I've been browsing several boards on the web trying to purchase various computer parts. Several of these boards have a nice rule for their trade forum. Its simply this...
If you read a For Sale thread, add a bump to it. This keeps the forum in motion and provides a rotating look at the items for sale.
I started doing it today and it already has helped to sell one item. Give it a shot! Also, most places only allow the author to bump the thread once every 4 hours to keep it legit.
Yeah I know wrong forum... but any thoughts before the mods move me? ;)

I agree about the 4 hours being too much. 24 hours is a much better minimum time limit for bumping your own thread.

If your post is still on the first page, please don't bump. If you must bump, don't bump more than once a week. Spammy :)

You know, since the B/S/T forum can be kinda slow like quarterback said, I guess 24 hours would be kinda excessive. I guess I'm just used to when I sell XBOX stuff over on X-S. Of course, out of all my FS threads here I think I've only bumped one, and it didn't do me any good. :P

Please do not do this!
I and others read the forums looking for unread posts. If bump posts outnumbered original content I would just stop reading altogether.

Disregard my suggestion people. It appears as if I am among the minority that likes to see alot of motion on the B/S/T forum. I just prefer when things get circulated faster. I apologize for any inconvenience.

I feel if the item is not sold before it gets off the page, its not going to sell, theres no point in bumping.

One thing I wouldn't mind seeing is a "sponsor seller" category. The commercial guys can have a single thread that they announce prices/sales/specials and we can PM them for more info. It could be a daughterboard to the main buy/sell forum. Of course they'd have to actually sponsor the site and maintain a good reputation, but I don't see that as being a big issue. They can keep their thread locked, so it only moves back up when they have changed their sale.

i think if someone wants something specific, they will use the search function to find it...?

It's kind of rude to bump your own sale, unless you added, changed items, changed prices, etc. I usually bump if I lower the price ;D
