You can make your own - or I think the harness that Happ sells for the mechanical rotary joystick (that Happ sells separately) will work, but I'm not certain of this.
If you have an encoder with enough inputs (16 per stick plus buttons), you can wire them directly to the encoder and use MAME analog Plus, and bypass Druin's board (might be a very interesting use for a GP-Wiz32, now that I think about it), but I think Ikari doesn't work for some reason (the other games are fine though).

The LS-30 are not the most reliable joystick.

thx for info guys,cheers

ive been looking at mame analogue + and it seems you have to compile it(whatever that means).well over my head.if i got an ipac and noname mame32 would that work.

Id recomend the druin interface...its a little more money to spend but it will make things easier in the end

Not true, there are (were?) binaries available. As far as I know there isn't a recent one, check the features pages on Mame Analog +TM (or maybe Popular generic Emu Analog +) :police: for the version that added direct LS-30 support and use that.
NoNameMAME32TM or NoNamePopularGenenricEmu32 - Most versions included the comparable Analog Plus code, but . . . Often Analog Plus was not updated b/c it didn't work with the latest Mame version. In this case the code was left out of NoName. So you have two things to check here-is the build recent enough to include the rotary code, and is Analog Plus added to this build.

ive got noname mame32 0.83.14.in the controller options it says its got support for rotary 12 direction and rotary official dial.is this the one?

Yes, that should work. See the Mame Analog Plus site for help in setting it up.

so if i went this way would pin 1 on the joystick go to pin 13 on druins interface.pin 2 on joystick go to pin 12 on druins interface and so on.
-
yup
-
ive now got my druins interface but im still a bit confused as to making my own harness.if i had joystick on left hand side and druins on right hand side facing each other, would the wiring go straight over to the corresponding one or would each wire cross over each other.
-
ive figured it.finally made my own harness.works great too.
-
got pics?
-
try and take some later.its not a pretty sight but hey it works.i took 1 end of hdd cable and split it to leave the 13 wires needed.i tried it on joystick side but it was a bit tight so i used this plastic plug i found which fitted perfect.then joined them in middle.

quite a hack job, good going

now i know it works i'll tidy it up a bit.

WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY INTERFACE??
Hahahah nice cable. I've been wondering if I can find a compatible connector (the proper pin size) that would make an easy to build harness. Then I could at least provide part numbers and possible sources for anyone needing them for times like this.
The original connector I think was JST and I looked through the catalogs once and didn't see anything (didn't look too hard). But I think Amp might make something that fits.
I'm doing something at work that involves a 3 pin connector that looks mighty similar to these pins so when I get samples in I'm going to see how they mate to the LS30 pins.
-
The actual JST connectors and pins are:
Cable Connector: H13P-SHF-AA
Connector Pins: SHF-001T-0.8BS
PCB Connector RT Angle: BS13-SHF-1AA
I ordered a few and they are the exact connectors/pins that comes with the LS-30.

Bob Roberts sells connectors that'll work. You just have to know which size pins you have, and how many per inch. Dunno if they're cheaper than from JST, but you know you're dealing with a good guy when you order from Bob.
