Title: Hantarex CT 28" EV
Post by: Midnight Tboy on April 13, 2005, 07:49:23 pm
Hey there,

I'm wondering if you can help me.

I'm at that point of the Project Arcade book, having my cabinet shell and control panel etc more or less all made up, the last critical point being to decide whether I was going to use a TV or arcade monitor in the cabinet.  I live in the UK so I can use RGB on a TV to get the desired res/freq so at first I was going to shop around and find as close to a 27" screen as I could find.  It's still a possibility

However, I've come across this Hantarex CT 28" EV which is apparently a 26" svga monitor that I could get quite cheaply.  I cant seem to find any specific info on the model tho.

What I'm wondering, is firstly does anybody know if this monitor is actually any good?  It's meant to support 800x600 res at 32 bit - would this be interlaced though?

and more importantly, it gets me all confused the whole interfacing to pc and dropping to 15khz for the screen thing...does this monitor actually support 15khz?  indications I can find on a model EV/3  seem to indicate a freq range of about 31-38khz.  would this be a problem in getting those mame games to the perfect resolution be it with an ordinary card or with the Ultimarc ArcadeVGA card.?   I basically plan on using this primarily as a MAME cabinet, but I'll be having SNES emulators, NEO Geo, etc in there too....perhaps a fairly modern arcadey pc game too which made me think at first a TV would be best compromise.....but if I can get this and you're pretty confident I can play some pc games at 800x600 no probs and maybe a film or 2, then I may go for it - as it'll fit nicely in the cabinet (using the plans that came with the project arcade book)

sorry if I'm ranting on wanting too much info too soon, just annoying me having this monitor/tv step as main point holding me back.  As I have other confusing issues with regards to using TV's which I need to look into, which I shan't mention in detail here (except - should I leave a TV in its case or pull it to bits to fit bigger screen in?  how would you make the TV auto turn on to the av channel when powered up at mains instead of waiting for you to press the standy button etc etc etc)

hope you can help me.....

thanks,
Tuck

From the description, this sounds to be an SVGA monitor capable of 800x600 resolution so based on that it would interface directly with any  standard video card just like any other monitor.

For TVs, ideal situation is to find a unit which:

1. will stay on AV/Video designation if power is dropped

2. will auto power on when power is restored

In this manner, you can wire a power strip with a relay controlled by 12v circuit from PC which enables a single switch power source.

Power on PC, relay trips, powers on power strip which in turn triggers marquee light fixture, TV, and amp for speakers.

thanks mate

in the end the person who was selling this item (on ebay) dropped the auction with 1 day left :(  excuse being for "incorrect item description" or thereabouts.   Tried to contact again to see what the score was, but no response, ah well.

In the end I've actually just got a 21" CRT Iiyama Monitor off ebay for
