Title: Trackball in MAME stinks
Post by: Keller888 on April 10, 2005, 02:10:36 am
Is it me, or does anyone else have the same problem.  My Happ 3" works great with everything but MAME games.  I run Atari Classics and everything works great.  I switch to MAME games, and the trackball barely moves and is mostly unresponsive.  Am I missing something.  Also, what about Golden Tee 2k...It runs sooo slow on my computer (P3, 200mhz), is this a super game or what?  Anyone else having similar problems?

Mame has trackball sensitivity settings when you are inside a game. Don't know about golden tee though?

whoa, that's an old machine.  Are you sure it's not a P2?  I didn't think the P3s were clocked that low.  Golden Tee is probably just too much for your system.

Yeah, check your Tball settings on the MAME games you play.  You'll need to tweak to taste for each game.

If you're using a keyboard, the tab key normally brings up the box that allows you to change game settings.  You're interested in 'ANALOG SETTINGS'.  Select it and mess with the sensitvity setting until it responds the way you like it.

I use MAME 32 - under 'OPTIONS' --> 'DEFAULT GAME OPTIONS' --> 'Controllers' make sure you check 'Enable mouse input'.  I don't know how other versions of MAME handle this.

Good luck and happy gaming!

Ok, thanks for the posts, upon further review, my computer is a P2, 450mhz, which explains the slowness in GTG2k.  I am looking into adding a new video card, or upgrading the entire mobo.  Anyone know if you can use a current 4x 128mb video card in a PII system that has only the original AGP slot.  I think a new card will fit but, i'm concerned about voltage requirement, as I've read some new cards require more power to run, and the old P2's may not have it.  I know AGP is backwards compatible, but i'm not sure if it I will even see a performance increase with the additional Video Ram.  I have an old VooDoo AGP 64mb card installed now and GTG2k is unplayable.  I haven't even tested other games like NFL Blitz, but i'm sure the same slowness will exist.

Forget the video card, it's irrelevant to mame.  Upgrade your processor and motherboard and buy a cheap video card (I think the 3dfx cards ran on higher voltage) and all will be well.

Yeah, you are right...i've been reading more about MAME and found the same thing as you posted.  My video card will be fine, its the cpu.  I'm presently looking on Ebay for a barebones P3 and CPU....i'm sure i'll have something in a day or two, the prices are cheap...thanks again.

Yeah, I have a 1.6Ghz machine w/only a 32MB video card w/Svid out
and the machine works great.... (WinXP 256MB Ram)

Some games you will have a hard time running, even w/a killer
machine.. . you mentioned Blitz... I dont think that runs good for
hardly anyone... (does it?)

Trackball works good on the above machine also, with
Golden Tee and World Class Bowling....
