Maybe everyone already knows about craigslist.com. They have classified sections for many cities. And for some reason, it seems large CRT computer monitors go cheap.
I live in Phoenix and have seen ads for a dozen 21" monitors that went for a low of around $40 to about $100 over the last two months.
I just picked up a Viewsonic 21PS for $38!
It is an older monitor and doesn't support very high resolutions and refresh rates (highest usable resolution is probably 1400x1000 or so) but it looked and worked well. I also missed out on some Nokia 445Xs, and didn't try for some others. I've seen similar deals for other cities.
I wonder why 21" CRT monitors are so cheap? Perhaps their huge size deters buyers and high shipping costs deter people listing them on ebay. But for whatever reason, there's deals to be had.

Thats were I got mine. I think everyone is converting to LCD and they want to just get rid of the huking beasts.

I picked up my 27" NEC on Craigslist for $150. Max res 1024 x 768. It's a beast!
I've been looking for a 22" recently for a smaller project.

You can find some really good buys there, not just pc monitor related. Try doing a search for "arcade" or "mame" and you'd be surprised with the results. Last week I did a search and found a guy was selling 5 arcade machines for $500 dollars (that's right all 5 for $500, not $500 each). I think it was a ms pacman upright, a wacko, NFL blitz, and I forget the other two. I managed to email him about a 45 mintutes after his post but some guy already contacted him and offered $500 for each machine (@#$%!!!!). Lol he told me that he was selling his collection due to an upcoming divorce and he was afraid his ex-wife might have trashed them. I felt bad for the guy but it's funny, the whole reason why I'm starting to really get into "mame"-ing and arcade collecting is I'm getting a divorce myself and I no longer have anybody to tell me "no". weird...
