Title: TV Discoloration - Not Magnetic Interference.
Post by: DreamWeb on April 06, 2005, 09:20:39 pm
Hey guys...

I've got a problem with my television set.

I'm using an RCA television with S-Video input as my tv.

the problem I'm facing is pretty severe discoloration anywhere on the screen where the pixels are WHITE  (or any bright colour... the effect of the discoloration [which looks like burn marks] are lessened as the brightness decreases) for any period of time (it starts after about 20 seconds and just keeps getting worse)

Is there a way to fix this?  Will this permenantly damage my screen?

Has anyone even heard of this before?

I'm using an ATI Radeon 7000.  I'm running 800x600 for windows, and Mamewah.

I've seen this before on computer tubes and TV sets... Could be a sign of a bad tube, bad power supply, too high settings on the brightness/screen/contrast/drive, bad color processing, etc...

what does it look like just watching tv?  Do the contrast brightness controls make any difference?  maybe a picture would explain it better...

Hey, Menace.. nice to hear from you.

Yes, If I turn down the brightness and contrast.. the burn effect is lessened somewhat.  If the screen is neutral(50%) gray, it doesn't burn-in at all.  For example.. before I turn on my computer, it'll be gray and will display the message, "No Input" (or something like that).  It can sit there all day long and there will be no burn-in effect.  I'm trying to find a balance now between what's acceptable to look at (play) and what will produce the burn-in effect.  I hate to decrease brightness and contrast too much though..

While watching TV it seems to be pretty good.. I didn't see any burn-in.. BUT.. it's difficult to tell as the brightness levels are contstntly changing (unlike.. say.. a windows screen)

Thanks!

David

maybe try the rca jack instead and see if you get a different picture--maybe something has gone wonky with the chrominance or luminance levels on the s-video jack.

Yah, I was thinking last night that I should give that a try!  I'll do that this evening and give it a try.

I'll also take some snapshots!

Hi DreamWeb,

Did you ever find out what was causing this problem?  I have a similar problem with my 27" Mitsubishi TV using the s-video input.

I've heard this refered to as "doming".

Nope.  Just S-Video and RCA.
