Title: AGP or PCI video card for DOS
Post by: liche on November 18, 2002, 08:47:22 am
Sorry, one more question . . .

Would there be any major difference between using a PCI type video card vs. the AGP version of the same card performance-wise?

I heard somewhere that DOS has trouble working with an AGP card correctly, so I was thinking of going with the PCI version of the Trident T64 card.

Thanks again

Well, in mame I really doubt you'll see a major different (that is if you're compaing a video card with the same chipset PCI/AGP).. I think one of the advantages of AGP is it's ability to use system ram for textures so for games with plenty of those it might be of benefit. However for 3D stuff in DOS I doubt you'll been able to support most of the cards features. If it's simply for mame and cosidering PCI to save a few $ then PCI would be just fine for 99% of the games.

Thanks.  Actually, the AGP version is about $10.00 cheaper for some reason.  Maybe the PCI version is harder to get nowadays, hence the higher price.

Anyways, I just ordered the AGP version, so hopefully that will run my U3100 Monitor just dandy.
