Title: Any advice on buying used computer dedicated to MAME cabinet?
Post by: rackoon on April 05, 2005, 07:29:23 pm
Hello,
I am new to MAME and want to build my own MAME cocktail cab and system. I, like many of you, spent the better part of my teens, in the 80's pounding buttons in the local arcade until my allowance was gone.
I have Saint's book on the way, but until it gets here I would like to start looking for a used computer to run just MAME. I want to use MAME32 in windows because it looks easier for me to run.
I searched may sites and found what the minimum requirements would be to run a MAME system, YET CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST USED COMPUTER TO PURCHASE. I have found a few PII and PIII  with 900MHz or a little more at reasonable prices.
My goal is to play all as many games as possible. How much space would I need to store them all.
                         Any advice  would be helpfull

First of all, welcome aboard.  Saint's book will be a big help for you during your adventure through building your own cabinet.  As for picking up a used PC to be used for your cabinet.  It honestly depends on what game you HAVE to have running.  If they are CHD games, good luck on lower systems.

I would recomend (sp I know I know) checking out the sticky post on this very forum.  It will honestly walk you through your early questions.
