okay so im making a classics cab for a friend and all it needs is one 4 way joystick for donkey kong, frogger, etc. i dont have a router, and i know that the 4 way needs a mounting plate to sit correctly. my question is, is there another way for me mount it? or is there an easier, or better way to get 4 way functionality without having to use a router to recess a section in the wood? thanks for your help in advance.

I believe RandyT's replacement handles will fit in that base and the length is adjustable so mounting it on the underside of a wooden control panel wouldn't be a problem. I guess, though, that ordering a replacement handle is no easier than ordering a mounting plate so maybe this doesn't help.

You could get a replacement handle from groovygamegear.
-
p.s. RandyT and Groovygamegear are one and the same, Hulkster, in case you thought you might like to look at both options and decide which one sounds better :)

If you are making a classics cab then how about using a red ball top T-stick plus, there are a lot of "classic games" that are 8 way that you may want to include.....1942, Gyruss, Scramble, Juno-First, Exed-Exes the list goes on and on.

btw, I like the mounting brackets from Bob Roberts MUCH better then from the Happs ones.
Bob Roberts ones are flat. and 10 bucks or something. Cheap.

which one do you recommend?

You mean color, texture, and size? (Your preference!)

so im guessing the omni-stick is the best choice here. my question is, can this be mounted underneath 3/4" mdf without any recessed section or mounting plate?

Whoa, Doggie - I thought you already had a reunion stick. If so, you could mount it below panel with one of RandyT's Versa-ball joystick shafts. If not, the Omni-Stick with the mounting plate is a good choice (roughly $25), but you do have about 1/10" 5x5 plate above the CP. Otherwise the E-Stick or T-Stick from www.ultimarc.com is an option, although I don't like the fascia on the E-Stick, and (from what I've read) not sure about the stiff springs/short travel of the T-stick.

okay, i DO have a reunion joystick, but i dont have a router to recess a section in the cp. so what im wanting is a dedicated 4 way joystick that can be mounted similar to the super 8's from happ. all i want to do is drill a hole in the cp and mount a 4 way joystick underneath just as i would a super 8. understand? if you know of a way to do this with my existing reunion joystick, i would be happy to hear it.

Okay, back to square one - Go to the link I posted above for the Versaball joystick shafts (they start at $11.99). Pick out the appropriate color, texture, size, etc. (your choice). Pick up a dust washer ($1.99) if you need one (don't have one lying around). Remove reunion joystick shaft, mount reunion joystick to bottom of panel, install Versa-ball shaft at desired height.
You might want to try this in scrap 1x4 first. You might want to verify with RandyT that the Versaball shaft works with the reunion stick.
-
okay i will check with RandyT....im guessing he is the owner of the website you gave me a link to? also, i have never seen a dust washer i dont think....is that the black plastic ring that fits around the joystick between your hand and the cp?

Correct on both questions.

as long as the joystick shafts off of RandyT's site work, then it will all work out.
It's been confirmed (in another thread) that they do work
-
okay so im going to go with the shafts from RandyT's site, but i'm wondering which size to get? im using a 3/4" panel, so will a 1 1/2" joystick be long enough? (heh)

yes yes, pac man balls....jokes abound.

I know you already have a reunion, but you can get a pac stick from Tornado Terry that will mount in wood as well (just for future reference).
