Post by: kenzo42 on April 04, 2005, 02:25:55 am
does anyone know of a good place to find rectangular ceramic resistors. radio shack didn't have the ones i needed.

1ohm 25 watt ---for loading my 5v line
12ohm 15watt ---for loading my 12v line

thanks.

Mouser Electronics (www.mouser.com) part numbers:

71-RH25-1.0 (around $2.25) 1 ohm 25 watt

71-RH25-12 (around $2.25) 12 ohm 25 watt

Those are the chassis mount (wrapped in a metal heat sink to dissipate heat) versions. You can screw mount them to the side wall of your cabinet anywhere then run wires from them to where needed to be connected.

Think about using say 2x 10W wire wound cement resistors in parallel instead of a single high priced one.  55 cents each.

These don't need extra heatsinking.

Mouser Part #:   280-CR10-24
Mfr. Part #:   280-CR10-24
Mfr:   Xicon
Category:   Wire Wound Resistors - Cement filled Ceramic
Description:   Xicon 10W 5% Low Ohm Cement Power Resistors 10WATTS 24OHMS 5%

Run two of these in parallel to get the 12 ohms you need.
I don't mean tail to tail one after the other. That is series.

Mouser Part #:   280-CR10-2.0
Mfr. Part #:   280-CR10-2.0
Mfr:   Xicon
Category:   Wire Wound Resistors - Cement filled Ceramic
Description:   Xicon 10W 5% Low Ohm Cement Power Resistors 10WATTS 2OHMS 5%

Also run these two in parallel also to achieve 1 ohm total resistance in parallel.
