Hello all!
New to the boards and looking for some help with a MAME cab I'm trying to get going.
I got the Arcade VGA (New Model w/one monitor port and 1 RCA) and a J-Pac (I'm converting an old Run and Gun game).
I can get the Computer screen on the monitor (no idea what kind of monitor--25 or 27" w/a RCA tube) but I can't get the drivers to install.
Tried to load the drivers in Safe mode, but it says I need Direct X 8.0. I tried to get Direct X on the computer from the net and from a Game disk I have, and I can't seem to get it loaded on. Any ideas?
Keep in mind that this is a newly re-stamped computer that I got from a friend. Works great on a regular monitor w the regular video card.
PLEASE HELP!!!!
Thanks!
Jeremy

The Direct-X version does not have to be 8, it can be any later version. If you are still having install probs drop me an email.

I'm running a P4 1.5GHz w 512 Ram. I runs MAME32 great with it's
regular video card (AGP ASUS V7100 Magic/32M) in Windows XP SP2.
I know I have Direct X 9.x because MAME32 won't run without it.
I'm converting an old Konami "Run & Gun" Jamma cab, with a 25" arcade
monitor. Not sure on the manufacturer, but the Tube is RCA. If I
need to I can send you pics or try to look it up on the net.
I've tried to install the Arcade VGA drivers without the card
installed. Goes to install screen then back to the desktop.
OK--doesn't see hardware, won't install driver. I get that.
When I install the Arcade VGA card (the newest model, I believe--1
VGA, 1 RCA), I get all the way to the Desktop with out a dual image
(split screen that I've read about) and the picture looks decent.
But, then the computer finds the new hardware and after about 5
seconds, the Arcade Monitor goes blank. The J-Pac inside the cab is
still showing both lights solid.
I restart the computer in Safe Mode, to try to install the drivers
manually (not enough time to try that before the monitor goes blank
with a regular boot). I go to the Ultimarc CD and click the install
for the Drivers and it tells me that I need Direct X 8.x for install,
and then flashes a box that says drivers can't be installed and to try
a standard VGA driver.
I can install the ATI control panel in Safe mode. It just won't see
Direct X. MAME32 also doesn't see Direct X.
Do I try the generic VGA drivers? Where do I go to find them? Then what? Also, can I erase the built in XP drivers so maybe I can try an install w/ a regular boot? Tried the ATI Cataylst Uninstall...still not wanting to respond.
Any Ideas, Anyone?
Or should I just Scrap this all and drop some $ for a Wells Gardner? How much are they?
Thanks for any help...I'm also emailing Andy at Ultimarc and will let you know what develops.

I've got a Wells Gardner, and I am having the same issue.
Mine is in a different post though, I didn't see your post.

I just re-did this yesterday and I encountered all the same problems you are describing.
One of the dialogue boxes along the process has a checkbox that says something to the effect of "Don't look for a driver, use the one I point to" or something to that effect. This is DIFFERENT from the place where you say you want to choose your driver from a disc. I wish I could remember it verbatum, but this did the trick for me.

Sounds like the card is switching monitor frequencies when windows boots into ones which are for use with a standard VGA monitor. If you unplug yourarcade monitor and install a normal PC screen do you see a picture? If so then you can install the ArcadeVGA drivers and chang the setting to work with your arcade monitor - at that time the PC screen will stop working!

I forced Windows to load the driver. Andy from Ultimarc sent me an e-mail to force windows to load the drivers.

However, now, the screen is too wide. There is no horizontal size adjustment. I have tried all the settings I can and can't get the entire screen on-screen.
But, at least the video is working now. Trying to read stuff though is very difficult. It is so blurry reading text meant for a computer moniter on an arcade monitor.
What can I do about the horizontal size?

There IS a horizontal size adjustment, you need a plastic allen wrench to do it. It is inside that little tube sticking up in the monitor chassis, the one with the copper wire wrapped around it. Go to a TV shop to get the little plastic allen wrench you need. You HAVE to use a plastic one, a metal one will break it.
